Self door locking - disable

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife drives a Y reg. Octavia estate, and has the habit of leaving her keys in the ignition when she leaves her car, upon her return the car has locked itself which has caused me on many occasions to have to leave the pub early as I have a spare set of keys!!!. Does anybody know a way of disabling this function, which I think is dangerous. If she did not have her mobile phone to hand, and we had a young child on board - parked in the sun, I hate to think of the consequences.

ANY help gratefully appreciated,

Kind Regards, Nitros

The doors shouldnt lock themselves in that situation at all.

As far as I am aware, they will only lock themselves if you unlock the car with the key using the button, not in the lock, and then without opening the drivers door the car will lock itself again after 60 seconds. If you open the door this is cancelled. I was always able to leave my old vRS unlocked for many hours whilst washing the car.

The only other scenario where the doors lock themselves has to be programed, and thats an anti-hijack feature where you have to physically moving for it to happen.

do you have an aftermarket alarm

Thank you for your reply, but sadly this is the case, must have happened 6/8 times to date.

No, bought new from distributor,

It might help to have the car checked for any fault codes with VAG-COM or by a dealer.

Sounds like a central convenience issue. Is the led on the drivers door on constant even when driving?

And another one!

Does the "door open" light illuminate everytime the door is open? I suspect it doesnt.

The car will lock the doors 30 seconds after you un-lock it if it thinks no one has opened the doors. Its a security feature to stop you, for example, accidentally unlocking the car with the keys in your pocket.

Several of us have problems relating the the cars' ability to know if the doors are open or closed. The number of people with the problem seems to grow almost daily.

Thank you all for your replies, I will take the car back to the original supplier and ask for a check to be carried out.

Kind Regards, Nitros
