Fabia picks up new 1.2

Skoda is introducing the VW Group's three-cylinder, 1.2-litre 64bhp petrol engine to its Fabia range. Previously the Czech entry model was the 68bhp 1.4 unit, which stays in the line-up.

The new base Fabia is available in both hatch and estate guises, starting from

I understand the 1.4 8v engine will be droped if not imediately but soon with the introduction of the 1.2 3 cyl engine and the 1.4 16v will continue, not sure what will hapen when the 1.4 version of the 1.2 engine is released.

Perhaps the new engines can't come too soon.

I've read that there have been internal ice build up problems, during sub-zero temperatures, with the 1.4 engine used across the VW group.

It would be nice if the 1.4Tdi was introduced here in the Fabia, like it is on the continent.

The 1.2 12v engine is a gem. I've got one in our Ibiza.

Revs freely, makes a great noise (like a mini v6), great economy.

Not much bhp but you would never know when driving it :D
