1.6 Octavia-A big thumbs up!

Featured Replies

I spend too much time in the Felicia Section!

so I thought I'd come hang with the octy boys and girls:D

I dont own one, but had a 1st gen 1.6 one as a Hire car in Prague (march 2006)

used it to go to Kunta Hora, an absolutly freaky "church of Bones" in Sedlec (Sedlec Ossuary Gallery for some pics!)

Then drove down to Bratislava in Slovakia for dinner (4.5hrs driving for 2hrs sightseeing/eating!)

and its approx 210 miles each way, you do the maths;)

It was a LHD 1.6 comfort(ish) spec, rode really well, easy to handle in town- parking is mental in Prague:eek:

We were 5 up for the trip to the church, and it was a bit squashed in the rear-didnt bother me though as I was up front getting lost,eh I mean navigating....

Car seemed to be holding up well to abuse from rental users, and happily survived our abuse.

the 1.6 was no ball of fire (ie, sure even mil could beat it:rofl: )

but it worked well with a full tank, boot and load of folks.

Just really to see if other 1.6 owners/drivers had similar positive experiences?

It's a good, sensible reliable family car. Cheap to insure and service, good mpg.

But after owning one for 8 years and now the kids are older and no longer need taking everywhere.. I fancy something more exciting with a bit more POWER. Oh well, I can dream....

Thats what the vRS is for  To be fair, its the only Octavia I like :o

I had the 1.6 AEE engine in a Felicia and again in my recently aquired Polo. Its not fire breather for sure, but its pretty torquey, pulls well and is very smooth. I can imagine it feeling underpowered in the Octavia though.

I've heard the AEE is good for over 250,000 miles... my local Skoda independant has a 1.6 Felly with 212,000 miles on the clock, and it drives nice! :)

Yeah, it does the job it needs to... :)
