Wheel offset & widths

Featured Replies

Iam now wanting a new set of wheels for my Fabia VRs, and after searching endless pages from here iam settled on going for 17" again.

My only problem is now

If i went for a 215/40/R17 tyre on a 7" wide wheel, What offset would i need??

I know ita 35-40 but which is 100% right??

ALSO

If i went for the same 215/40/r17 tyre on 7.5" wide wheel, What offset would i need??

one more

again with the 215/40/r17 tyre on a 8"(tyre will the streched I think(giving a different look) What offset would i need??

Ive been on the offset calculator etc but from the standard 6.5 inch to the 7.5inch wheel it means an extra 25mm well an extra 12.5mm in to the inner and then the same to the outer of the wheel arch. Just sounds a lot.

Thanks in advance

Steve

If it helps, my rear setup on a 16" wheel is:

8" Rim

ET27

215/40/16 stretched

The wheel does stick out a bit, but with the stretched tyre, all the tread is well under the arch.

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't look cool on the front though.

Allrate steve hows it going mate?

ill have a look in the rimstock book at work this afternoon, its like a bible of wheels and has every combination of tyre and wheel combination offset etc for each wheel width.

Will post back when i find out.

I would be interested in a 2001 Fabia SDI classic setup, looking at finding some wheels for that but not sure which Audi/Vw/Skoda will fit....

Not bad, iam just sick of toss pot alloy wheel companys telling me 19" wheels will fit on my fabia. Hopefully this tread shall shed some REAL life answers about offsets etc, Then all being well i shall have them on by the end of the month :D

hi mate,

had a look today.

on a 17 x 7" wide rim it suggests an offset of 38 with a 205/40 r17 tyre

on a 17 X 7.5" wide rim it says an offset of 37 with a 205/40 r17 tyre

on a 18 x 7" wide it says an offset of 38 with a 215/35 r17 tyre.

If it were mine i would stick to a max 17 inch rim, i know youve already got 215/40r17 so i would put that size on a 17x 7.5 wide with a 37 offset.

Would look nice on 18's but with a 35 profile tyre i think the ride would be too jarring.

Come down to wake ill run some wheels outside to match up to the car if you want?

Hi

Yeah, it's as low as the H&R Coilovers will go :)

Fronts are around about the same ET but are 6" Wide with 195/45/16's.

Photos in the Fabia Alloy Wheel thread, and also the Ultimate Dubs 2006 Photo thread :)
