New Kid On The Block - Octy VRS Delay??

Featured Replies

Hi guys and laydeeeez. I've got a Black Magic Octavia VRS (Petrol) on order but seem to be waiting forever and ever! I ordered it from DC COOK and bartered a total price of £15,800 including delivery which was a lot better than my local dealer's £17,500 PLUS tax, registration fees, etc.

I ordered on Dec 12th 2006 and was told it would be a factory built order as they didn't have a black one in stock. Fair enough, my local dealers didn't have one either and DC Cook's price was very competitive. Delivery was estimated at 8 to 10 weeks which is normal for a factory order. But i'm STILL awaiting delivery. My original order was for a 56 plate but it will now be an 07. Trouble is, they haven't even got the car yet, although they've promised March 20th or sooner. Obviously i'm starting to get a bit p'd off as their communication has been extremely poor and i only find out what's happening by phoning them.

My question is, is there a problem at the factory? I've been told that they're having "technical" problems but i've taken that with a pinch of salt. I've only paid a deposit of £1600 so far and getting highly tempted to tell them to stick it. Am i being too impatient or is there a genuine problem at the factory that's beyond DC Cook's control??

hi i ordered mines from dc cook on the 16 january i got it last week mines was race blue though .. mines was supposed to be coming for march registration but they got hold of one early for me and asked if i would like it delivered as soon as possible of course i said yes and they got it to me next day . i read a few bad reports about dc cook but i found them great and would deffo buy from them again. so if anyone see's me running around the glasgow area in a race blue octy vrs gimme a wave:D.. by the way the cars great:D:D

I'm soooo jealous!!

I've never dealt with DC Cook before and have been getting loads of stick, i.e. "they're gonna rob you", "you'll never get the car", etc, etc. It's a bit of a surprise that you got it so soon, was it a factory build or did they have it in stock?

Apparently , the guy that was processing my order no longer works for them but as i pointed out, that shouldn't have any impact on the customer.

Sounds like i'll have to sit tight and wait, wait, wait....

mines was race blue so it was supposed to be a factory order but they managed to get me one quickly you would be better phoning them up and speaking to a manager but as i said in my previous post they were very good with me and kept in touch ... i know they recently had a new computer system installed and it was causing problems for them but its no excuse for poor service as you have suffered .. the guy that delivered my car to me said at the moment dc cook are selling around 15 thousand cars a month so i dunno if that figure is true or false:) ..hope you get the car soon you will love it .. i had to buy a touch up pen for mine less than 24 hours after i got it due to 2 stone chips on the bonnet but its not a major problem :)

I phoned them yesterday and gave the guy a real hard time about it which resulted in the "20th March" or earlier promise. They reckon they'll have the chassis number in the next few days. But i'm very pessimistic and find anything they say hard to believe.

This is the first time i've bought brand new so i'm not really familiar with 'the norm'. I've seen 3 or 4 Race Blue's around our local dealers but i just fancied the Black Magic and decided if i was paying out nearly £16k that i'd get exactly what i wanted.

I must admit i'm slightly dubious about the "driven" delivery, especially as it's about 150miles. I just get these visions of a spotty 18yr old bombing down the motorway at 130mph and hitting every pot hole and rabbit he can find whilst earning himself 20 quid for a pot of glue. I've also read mixed views on DC Cook...they're either 10/10 or 0/10....there's no in between.

Did you have to sign for receipt of the car in good condition? If that's the case, i'll be out there with a microscope.;)

Just out of interest, what sort of price did you pay? I'm trying for even more discount but they aint budging much any more!

lol the guy that delivered mines was early fifties but when he delivered mines it was 6pm so it was getting dark . but i signed the forms but made sure i put unchecked due to it being dark . you get 7 days to reject the car if your not happy with it so i checked it properly the next day :D all was well untill

i took it out on the motorway and got 2 stone chips on the bonnet :( but its fixed now :D

i paid just under £15k i got a great deal on it even got an extra discount

yeah mines is a 56 it was registered at the start of feb so i missed out on an 07 registration but its still an 07 model just registered before the numberplate change:)

It's only a number but in my mind it has a Fit Chick Factor of +1. Shame about the ugly driver though...

:minus1: :D

There in lies a lesson - buy cheap and suffer cr@p service.

It sounds to me that you've ordered a basic spec car (Based on the 17.5k statement), I find it hard to beleive there isn't one in the UK at the port or another dealer.

Had you shopped around at other dealers you will have done almost as well I suspect, there are plenty of threads on here to support that.

I'd ask around and see what's around.

It's absolutely true that you only get what you pay for. The main issue was the waiting period which, (judging by many other threads on this forum) is a factory related delay rather than DC Cook messing me about.

I'm having a relatively standard car other than 18" wheels and parking sensors. I did shop around many local(ish) dealers before selecting DC Cook but the lowest price i could get was £16, 900 and this was the only dealer that said they "might" be able to get the spec and colour i wanted without requesting a factory build. All the others gave me the usual 8 to 10 weeks for delivery.

Does anyone know why the factory builds take so long? I assume it's either supply and demand or they build a "run" of specific cars once every few weeks. I can't imagine that the factory would have a devoted "Octavia Line", wouldn't it be more likely that they run several models on the same line, changing tools/programs/etc every few weeks or whatever?

Thought i'd give an update...

STILL haven't got it! I know there was a factory build delay, blah, blah but basically they keep fobbing me off with stuff like "We can't release it from the compound til next week", "It's a different department so we can't interveen", etc. It was registered and taxed on 30th March (assuming the reg no. they gave me is for MY car!) so i see no reason why they can't deliver. Most annoying of all is that they have broken every promise so far, i.e. 4 "guaranteed" delivery dates have passed and i've lost count of the number of times they said they'd phone me back but never have. It's cost me a small fortune in phone calls and i'm fed up of listening to their crappy telephone music for upto 20mins at a time.

I certainly wouldn't deal with DC Crook ever again or recommend them to anyone else. My latest promise is delivery next thursday. But i've lost all confidence and i'll be surprised if it turns up. *******..

:thumbdwn:

I would give them a letter stating that as they have now failed to meet X number of agreed delivery dates, and that you are aware the car has been registered in your name but they still won't let you have it, unless it is delivered immediately you will proceed with formal rejection and consider sueing them for breach of contract.

That should perk them up a little.

I suffered a similar experience with DC Cook four years ago when purchasing my wifes Ford Fiesta, it EVENTUALLY arrived 5 weeks later than promised but only after several letters, e-mails and phone calls. Although at the time it was definately cheaper, I'm not sure I'd want to go through the hassle of purchasing a car that way again.

Speaking for myself - I would prefer to spend a couple of hundred pounds extra to buy from my local dealer -- as I prefer to build up a relationship with the dealer -- can pay dividends later on if problems arrise.

It's certainly an education and my main reason for posting here is so that other potential customers can see what they might be dealing with. Ok, the price is significantly cheaper than my local dealers but is the hassle really worth it for a grand or so? In hindsight, i think not.

They've been a bit crafty regarding delivery dates as the only paperwork i have is the original contract which states "upto 10 weeks" but the small print in the back has a couple of clauses i.e. "reasons beyond our control". All the other dates were mentioned over the telephone and you know what they say about verbal contracts....

I don't know if the car is registered in MY name as i checked it out on the DVLA road taxing website - and it only states the first registration date and the date the road tax is due (April 2008). Is there a way to check if it's registered to myself or to DC Cook? The contract says their cars are pre registered so i assume it will be registered to DC Cook and i'll be the 2nd owner?

As this is the first time i've bought brand new, i don't really know the procedures... :o
