Separated from my baby + a rubbish hire car!

My baby is 150 miles away from me for the next couple of days. Been given possibly the slowest car I've ever driven as a hire car. and I've driven some slow cars. It's an 06 Fiat Punto, and whilst it appears nice to look at and has a few decent features, the engine is CRAP!! CRAP!! RUBBISH!!! I had a look in the engine bay and there's more AIR in there than engine! Must be the smallest 4 pot engine I have EVER seen! I suspect it's a 1.0 or something. 60 takes around 20 seconds, and in gear acceleration is nothing - 60mph in 5th is 3500rpm too - so badly geared. Can't wait to get my own car back again!

Had a good weekend away too. Met up and had a chat with Lloyd of Allard fame, and I get the feeling my car is in real good hands for the next 3 days or so - Met up with Mr Lummox to grab his TT wheels off him! :D That's my new "spare" and my two spare Evolos are being shod with slick tyres for 1/4 mile action.

A good mini meet in Leicester with bryanD and maxcars too! Lots of TDI chatter going on

Only bad thing about this weekend is the fact I've had to do 400 miles in this P.O.S fiat punto - at least the thing never broke down and does 40mpg.

Edit: Fiat website leads me to believe it's actually a 1.2 8v engine, and 60 in 15 seconds.... 15 seconds my ***, maybe if I totally thrashed it.

Glad to be of service :)

Glad your enjoying your hire car :P :D

 - you missing your car Mr J :o;)

You will enjoy it once it's done I'm sure though :D

SWMBO has a 1.2 54 plate punto and it's not quite as slow as you make it sound.

You do need to rev it hard to make rapid [1] progress , but around town it's fine and it'll trundle along at 80ish on the motorway.

More importantly it creaks less than my £18000 octavia

[1] for very limited values of rapid

Maybe allard have given you a punto for a reason?

just think how fast your car will feel after driving that punto around all weekend.

I've come from my mums 1.2 16v punto

parkers says 80bhp and 0-60 in 11s, it felt supercar like compared to my dads diesel astra!

Thats gotta b a killer going from your fabia to that sort of punto :thumbdwn:

It's what i can imagine its gunna feel like if i have to drive either of my parents cars again :P

i dont like fiat puntos had an old one(mk1) most unrliable car ive had ever..... blew its head gasket and it stripped a timing belt.....

Just to clear this up, Allard didn't give me the car - It's a hire car from a nearby Europcar branch. :)

It's still rubbish. :D Apparently it's a "grande" punto, although the "grande" is definitely not in the engine bay.

Were you really expecting it to be fast...??? Give me the Punto over a 1.2 Fabia anyday :P (No offence anyone :S)

I've also got a courtesy car at the mo whilst my vRS is in having the rust on the boot door sorted. It's a 56 plate Fabia HTP whatever that is......all I know is that it's gutless, noisy (in a rough tappy kind if way) and still suffers from wet carpets as you can see the rear door seals soaked in water on the top.

Took ages for the A/C to clear the front screen...water was practically running down the inside of it when he started it up.

Thing is, the economy according to the trip computer was a piddly 40mpg. Considering it's so bloody slow and sounds rubbish, I can't see why anyone would buy one over a modern diesel. Roll on tomorrow night when I get my vRS back. :(

Good things are worth waiting for...Patience, my son.....

Hang in there
