Messed up Electrics - stereo

Featured Replies

The stereo units on the old 1.8T VRS Octavia are terrible. Apart from cheap sound, I have a "05 model and I am on the second unit (the first one was replaced by Skoda under warranty when the on/off button refused to work and unit couldnt be powered off!).

The "replaced" unit has been in for about 5 months. During a relatively long trip, the unit decided to "jump" itself into the set up mode. When I stopped I couldnt turn off the power despite trying all buttons/instruction manual etc. Dealer disconnected and reconnected and worked for about a day - same problem. He tried a different stero unit and the problem was still evident - unit wasnt powering off.

Its been in for the entire day yesterday, the dealer had the unit running and couldnt see the problem. About 10 mins into my journey home, skipped into set up menu again and I couldnt adjust volume, turn off, etc (the Waterboys Whole of the Moon CD is brilliant but you wouldnt want it playing cranked up outside your bedroom window all night drinking battery juice!!!!). Eventually disconnected the head unit manually and booked a third visit to dealer.

Anyone else had this problem, comments appreciated?

Great site by the way

havent heard of this problem before.... i was expecting this thread to be about an after market HU which was causing problems. I know there is an ISO connector to swap the positive and ignition live wires over to stop any issues... this sounds as though the ignition live is somehow not powering off... perhaps they could check the wiring to ensure the correct live wires are in the right places?

Thanks a lot, much appreciated, very useful. Being a technophobe, not sure what it means but I will speak with dealer next week and update.

Appreciate help. Despite 3 further visited to dealer, the problem persisted. Eventually, the dealer took out the head unit from this own demo car and did a swap. His one is working fine in mine and for 4 days, mine was ok in his car. I got a call last week saying the unit had flipped again in his car - long a short of it is, the second unit which was replaced under warranty is faulty and needs to be replaced again! Really crap quality control from SKoda sub contractors who manufactured the unit. The first replacement took 4 months to order as dealer advised Skoda hd problems with original manufacturers and were relacing them - evidently, new manufacturers no better!
