Help re: loose dash sensor....

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Picked up my new Vrs Estate last week, and am more than pleased with it so far. Still running in yet but find it still has plenty of grunt on 3/4 revs....

I recently removed the Stream head unit at the weekend to fit a Parrot handsfree kit (removed from my old motor). I found the length of the radio loom extremely tight, with barely enough slack to get your hand in to release the quadlock connector. During the to-and-fro of slipping the head unit back and forth, I have accidently disconnected what appears to be some sort of sensor that looms up towards the vents at the back of the cavity. It is a small wired circuitboard around 2 inches in length, 1/4 inch thick with a bi-metal strip type appearance. It has a grommet at the wire end which would appear to seat it somewhere within the confines of the dash, with the strip part fitting inside somewhere. I am guessing that it may be some sort of temperature sensor for the climate control, but can't for the life of me find where it needs to plug back in.

I have tucked it back under the vents for now, and the car appears to function correctly with no warning lights etc. The heaters and such also appear to function properly....

Has anybody any idea what this sensor is, and where exactly it needs to sit?

Thanks

Steve J.

Is this it by any chance? IIRC mine went back under the left of the two top airvents, when looked at through radio opening. I hope that makes sense. Shine a light up and you should see opening.

Thanks fellas, you've nailed it for me there. Photos spot on.

I had a rough idea it went under the vents, but didn't want to snap it trying to force it somewhere it didn't want to go..... now I have to gee myself up to remove the head-unit and Parrot loom again (which earned me an NVQ in gynaecology to fit!)

Appreciate the help,

Steve J.

OKay, quick update.....

Sensor housing was eventually found on the lower feeder-tube to the RIGHT hand side vent (as you look thro the vacant radio housing/opening). The sensor more or less goes in horizontally i.e. at right angles to the feeder tube. My car is 07 Plate, 2007 model.

I had to remove the upper vent unit before I eventually spotted the hole, but it is accessible thro the radio opening once you know where it is. I took a few pics which I will try to post when I get chance.

Big thanks to VRStu for the MFD2 install article on the Octy Vrs website. Found the information invaluable when sprising off the trims etc on my 2 day old car!
