Tyres - ouch!!

Featured Replies

My Vrs is coming up on a year old and after 13k miles the original Continentals have taken much abuse and finally have reached the point where they have less meat on them than a size '0' cat walk model with a bad case of anorexia!

I'm running on 18" wheels and all 4 tyres need changing; anyone got any tips for deals etc, I don't want cheap nasty, chuck you in the nearest hedge on a tight bend, crap tyres, or some horrible things that would de-laminate in a Richard Hammond stlylee at high speed, just an honest price on some decent new rubber?

Cheers

As Wardy says - the MytYres are about the cheapest place. Check out their reviews on each tyre - tyretest.com and perhaps also Pneus-Online: car tyres online, motorcycle tyres, SUV tyres, new tyres for a flat price - more specifically Tyre summer : tyre selling summer any brand

As a result of both these surveys I bought Hankook Vertus for my Fabia vRS (wanted Toyo Proxes) which offer good all round grip etc - too soon to tell about wear, though there they seem to get a very good rating.

ScoobyChris and others have fitted Falken 452... think there is a review on them in the reviews section

Blackcircles gave me a good deal and excellent service. They deliver to a local fitter and sort out all bookings etc.

I do rate my Falkens, although economy is currently down 3 or 4mpg per tank which may or may not be a concern for you! I'd also highly recommend Event Mobile Tyres - Your Local Mobile Tyre Fitting Service Competitive prices (compared to mytyres) plus they will come to you to fit them!

I would also recc; myself:rolleyes: Tyres, Car Tyres and click on the "best buy tyres" link, better still ring me at the Thame branch and i will get you even better discount courtesy of Briskoda;)

I've shortlisted the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 for my 4X4 Estate which needs 205/55 R16 91W. TyreTraders is cheapest at

Tyres for the MkII vRS has been discussed recently in this thread. I'm currently running Michelin PS2's which although good are bloomin' expensive. I think I'm going to give the Falkens a go when it's time to change as current reports appear favourable, cheap too at around £75 a corner

I've seen a couple of High Street tyre guys advertising BIG deals on Goodyears at present, my local one at 1/3rd off.

As stated above the Falken 452s are giving good vibes, but personally I'd go for Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s. They're pricy but really really good.. my fronts as fitted on a Fabia are down to 3-4 mm and STILL grip like they are new - wet or dry - plus they are relatively quiet and also comfortable. For these reasons I am having them fitted to the 18s I'm getting on my vRS Octavia presently on order.

I've got F1's on my Fabia VRS and they seem ok.

Had them on my Volvo T5 as well and gave good grip in all conditions, and the pattern looks nice too.

I like um as you may be able to tell.

I can certainly vouch for the all round good service my brother got when he got some gsd3's fitting to his Octavia at your place  and that was despite the very annoying double spacers he had fitted at the time...

Havent some people said the goodyear eagles have got a soft side wall?

Yes, it has been mentioned by some. I never had a problem with them, and never felt that this so called 'flex' had an impact on handling. I had them all-round on the Ibiza and couldn't fault them, wet or dry. Wear seem pretty good too.

Going for some T1-Rs on the wheels I'm getting for the MX, so will see how those compare. These two seem to be some of the best choices around, at the moment.

Steve

Was only repeating what had been said! Ive had GS-D2's on the car for a while now and would definately go for them next time.

Currently got T1-Rs on the front, after picking up a puncture in the continentals i'd bought 6 months ago. After reading alot of good things about them a while ago about being really grippy, i've found them to be fairly hard, but keep there profile better than the continentals with the weight of the engine on them.

I bought 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s - 205/55 R16 91W - today for £214.93 delivered. The price had dropped again since Friday. :)

I've got a set of 4 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, 225x40x18's in the garage, with 6-7mm on them, good directional tyres with a stiff sidewall, I only changed them as I got a silly deal on a set of BN F1's off a guy on ebay!! PM me if you are interested.

Just taken delivery of my vRS Octavia with Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 tyres in 225/40 18 size (fitted by Event Tyres www.event-tyres.co.uk).

Having got home after a 30 mile/45 min drive I reflected on the car and how chuffed I am with it. Then thought there was something missing, tyre noise!!

Compared with the Contis fitted to my dealer's demonstrator where there was one overriding factor about the car which was tyre noise - the Michelins, whilst not totally quiet, allow you to enjoy the rest of the car.
