Broken my brakes

Featured Replies

Right,

Iv'e had the Getz for just a few months and Iv'e allready managed to break something!

It had to slow quickly from about 110MPH (No Jokes about how it got there)

Now during reasonably hard braking the steering wheel shakes quite a bit. Iv'e checked up on the internet and I beleive this is due to the heat warping the Disks or the Disk Rotors,

It has 13" Ventilated on the front and rear drums which are very underpowered and not uprated for the Automatic Gearbox. Can I make a warranty claim on this?

It's just that I don't think they should have given out so easily:thumbdwn:

Depends on mileage and Hyundais policy but I wouldnt think so.

13" front discs? Thats around 330mm. They sound huge and should be able to stop a car adequately without falling apart.

warranty? brakes are surely considered a consumable part, that you've technically "abused"

we used to change front discs quite regularly on the Fords , and under warranty too

I think he means all the brakes added together is 13"..............:)

Yeah, they are really tiny brakes

I would have expected them to have survived a few emergency stops. If I can't claim under warranty I'll have to try to see if the coupe discs will fit.

Problem is is that the car all ways coasts and gets no drag from the engine, but the brakes are not uprated to represent that fact.

edit: 2700 miles on the clock

at 2700 miles i would expect they would sort the brakes under warranty , as wear and tear wouldn't really come into it at that mileage , brakes not fit for the purpose may do though

but then again how many Hyundai Getz owners will ever get to 110mph to test out whether they are fit for purpose

I was looking at a getz over the weekend.

24months/24000 miles for the brakes, except the friction linings the manual said.

Do you mean 13cm Discs, because as Jason said 13" discs should stop most cars if the callipers/pads are up to much. :P

Brake wear is classed as a consumable by most. Brake warpage is not wear but a material defect. Should be under warranty. I have only ever claimed warranty of discs from Ford and there was no problem replacing them.

Chris

NB When you get the new discs be careful to run tem in correctly. Overheating them from new can lead them to warp early on in the service life.

Hyundai are normally excellent at looking after their customers (Hello Skoda, are you paying attention?), I'd imagine a phone call would get it booked in & resolved no bother.

Yep, I reckon this will be a hassle free waranty claim.

The Gets surely hasn't got 13" disks, they may well be under 13" wheels though. ;)

Serious answer - Maybe. Certainly a friend of mine got new discs under warranty on an Espace 2. Part of the reason for this was that, despite the Espace 2 being bigger and heavier, Renault had used the same braking setup model for model as on the Espace 1.
