Tried to remove rear door inner trim panel today - disaster!!!

Featured Replies

Inspired by VRStu's guide, I thought I'd have a go at sealing up my Fabia's rear doors today. Tried to remove the inner trim panel but have been thwarted by the rear tweeter housing in the door handle. Stu's guide says I should've been able to see the screw when I removed the armrest but I couldn't see anything, the Haynes manual was no help at all and I tried prising the tweeter unit out of it's housing with as much force as I dared without breaking anything and nothing happened. I managed to unclip some of the clips to try and peer behind the panel but some of them have inevitably broken so now the panel doesn't quite sit flush against the door. All in all, a complete f**k up!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I give up and take it in for the dealer to fix.

Thanks

I thought you could remove the mesh cover from the tweeter...

Yep, just been and checked, the whole tweeter should come out. If you pull the door handle towards you and pry the tweeter out (there's a small clip about half way up the tweeter) it all pops out and you can access the screw.

I've taken some pics but I've left my USB cable at home. I will post them up later if you want...

you need a thin screwdriver to push in the clip on the tweeter ,

the screws on the handle are accessed by removing the front half of the handle , lever it up and there is a clip which is just visible inside the handle , just push this into the door , not to hard though , then the front section should come off , then slide the rear section forwards , remove the screws now visible HTH

Wouldn't mind seeing the pics, thanks. I thought the tweeter should just unclip but it seemed very reluctant compared to the mrror swich on the front door which unclips easily and I didn't want to any more damage than I'd already done. I'll maybe pluck up the courage to have another go in the morning.

The pics didn't come out as well as I had hoped, but they will hopefully be of some use to you.

I tried to put them in order Once you've found where the clip is its dead easy. Just use your screwdriver (or letter opener as I did) to push the clip in a bit and lever towards you.

Hope this helps and good luck if you try it again tomorrow

Thanks, the pics were very helpful; knowing exactly where to push the clip without fear of stabbing the tweeter, I managed to release it. Hopefully the door is all sealed up now and all the clips are properly back in their places. Just the other side to do now. Ho-hum!

the other side will be easier , as you've had practice now at doing them :D
