Temp Sensor Saga

Featured Replies

Hey there peeps,

well, after utilising the search facility here I think i've diagnosed a problem i've got!

Started last week, the temp guage started working intermittantly, it would creep up to half way, and after a couple of miles, go back to nothing. Restarting the engine would make it move back to half way again.

Today it got worse, it wouldnt start at all, although after a few curses and a bit of patience, and a bit of right foot to get it to rev it started. I guessing the themostat/temp sensor is at fault here, causing it to run cold.

How much am I looking at to fix this?

i'm guessing i'm going to need a VAG COM readout to confirm my suspicions.

Fluid levels looks ok?

No obvious leaks?

Worth a quick check for sure :)

About

Hi

The Fabia does not have the same sensor as the Octy and the thermostat is not the same as the Felicia

It could be worth putting vagcom on just to check

But it does sound like temp sesnor

That one is an 06A number unlike the 059 one

Give the dealers a call and get one from them would be my advice

Sarah

The engine may not be running cold, the thermostat should be working correctly, it's more likely to the temp sensor on the engine.

When the engine is warm, the guage wont move much, if at all, when the thermostat opens to let the water circulate.

The temp gauge shouldn't go back to nothing when the engine has been running for a while, as the thermostat will control the speed of the water through the radiator to keep it at circa 95 degrees.

The engine will warm up if the thermostart is stuck open, it will just take longer.

I'd try the sensor first, probably the cheaper bit, but i'm bnot sure if they are one part or not now?
