New Superb Elegance

Featured Replies

Just done a deal on a 6 month old Superb Elegance 2.0TDi to replace my '03 TDi 130 comfort. Got a 500 mile trip to the south coast of England to pick it up though!

Just read that the dash instrumentation has changed slightly on the face lifted model (dials are white lit instead of green) does anyone have a piccy of the new dash lit up at night?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the reply, Pugwash. I have now got my new car a new style 2.0 Tdi 140 Elegance in Diamond Silver.

I agree the white dials/red maxi dot look great - but why did they leave all the other cabin lights green? Looks a bit odd to me. That aside, the car is simply stunning. The new 17" cygnus alloys look fabulous and I love the leather trim and the heated seats. The new car also seems to be less wallowy than my old 2003 1.9 tdi 130 comfort superb which is a big bonus.

Built in sat nav is OK - I love the direction arrows in the maxi dot display but miss the 3d display of my old pda/tomtom set up. Does anyone know if the Skoda satnav unit (DX, I think) can take a postcode entry?

One last question, the xenon dipped beam is a bit of a disappointment - I saw in another thread that they are quite often set very low at the factory and not set to the correct level during the PDI. Does anyone know how I can tell if they are correctly adjusted.

My 13 year old son wouldn't be seen dead in my old (Titan Grey) superb but thinks the new one is great - says the colour and the new style alloys make it look cool and insisted that I took him and his mates to school on Monday morning in it - is it possible that Skoda are finally starting to win battle against their old pre 1990s image?

Any pics of the car and the interior? :)

no probs = glad you like it bigbadgoggs - still waiting for my 2.5 auto elegance which will be my my third superb, i just think amazing value comparatively speaking and badge issue does not bother me, sat nav is really handy in dash but a bit limited - wished it showed your speed - it does have limited postcode input somewhere but i just use street names now as less hassle,

thanks for photo limlien can now see it shows autobox which i was not sure it would on maxiddot

Green? got me thinking and just checked mine (f/lift) No green lights just blue in door handles, white instruments and red cat.

Anyway glad you like car and agree with all comments. Been going 4 months now and enjoy every minute

Wot - no green lights on the ventilation flap controls, sat nav buttons, electric window buttons, auto dipping rear view mirror, climate control etc??

Hi all,

Interesting your comment on new car seeming "less wallowy". All the reviews I have seen seem to think the car wallows a bit on cornering. Having had my 2.0 Elegance for around two months now I am getting more and more impressed by its cornering. Could it possibly be the low profile tyres fitted on the Elegance ? The ride is a bit on the firm side (:-) !

Noticeably firmer ride than on my old comfort trim model with 16" wheels - I think you could be right about the low profile tyres, Roy.

Overall a big improvement - all I need now is to get the xenons aligned properly so that they actually illuminate motorway road signs when I drive past them!

Photos to follow soon.

Maxidot has always been red. My O3 plate has green illumination, white door handle lighting , red cat vision and red maxidot.

Personally the VW blue and red is much nicer.

you must have been lucky because every superb i have had has had the horrible yellowy amber maxidot until the new model they have lent me, my octavia had an amber display also. do agree on vw display though especially on guages

Is the maxidot on the Elegance different to the rest of the model range? My 55 plate Comfort also has the amber maxidot. Also agree the latest VW version is much better.

I changed an 2000 V audi A4 for my Superb Elegence, It has more room, better build quality, handles great and go like stink! The Audi had a red display and the dots started breaking down so couldn't always read them.

Most people who travel in my Skoda are very surprised how quiet is inside & outside the car as well as the lights in the door handles and the comfort levels. I personally don't think the ride is harsh even with 17" 225, 45 ZR tyres.

As soon as I get get some money without the wife noticing it going for darkened rear windows, brake calipers are going blue, a stainless exhaust is going on and a remap to give some more power, mind i don't think the wife will mind too much as I keep catching her with the sun roof open windows down & stereo full on.

Some of my family took the **** but they drive a Mazada 6 Sport (Old Mans car) I think I had the last laugh when they got in and saw the equipment levels, leather. One final thing I cruised mine down the Motorway at 120 a couple of days ago just how it should be driven I believe......................

thanks chocaholic - dont think so as I have been lent most models and they have all been amber , my 55 plate which i just sold was amber, a definite yes re vw though, and that is the only down side with Skoda they take a while to change things - but to be honest build quality and value for money and in general dealership service imho are the positives. ( i know most people knock dealers but Silbury Skoda have been great as far as I am concerned - if i am allowed to say that)

be interested to hear how remap goes kitchenscrubber

If its a 140 BHP DONT REMAP IT.

The Diesel particle Filters are the cars weak link & can clog if the cars driven slowly, ours has failed with the car as standard. I can only believe that remapping will in certain circumstances create more soot & this will lead to more clogging of the filter. The car does not smoke at all so the mapper has no visual sign as to whether too much fuel is going in, this was always a good check in the past.

If you fully bung up the filter it needs replacing & I believe they are something like 600 of your hard earned each

There is currently no known way of removing the filter as it has several semnsors on the system & these need to be mapped out or tricked somehow

It has been discused at length here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/superb/superb-2-0-140-bhp-dont-buy-one/63888/?highlight=superb+140

Interesting mine is a 130 but I don't drive mine slowly, however I think i used the wrong terminology. I was looking a performance component to plug in giving more bhp but same fuel consumsption apparently.

Wouldn't the occasional use of REdex helped slow the build up of soot? Seem strange that there are these small problems I put 120,000 miles on my old A4 TDI with no problems at all.

Prefer the skoda though:)

There is a significant technological difference between the 130 and the 140PS PD diesels. The 130 is a Euro Cat III engine and so does not requite a particulate (soot) filter in the exhaust. The 140 is a Euro Cat IV engine and has to have a soot filter in the exhaust to meet current legislative standards.

VAG have c0cked up the design of the soot filter on the Superb (and a few other models by the sound of it) so it gets clogged. It would also appear that they are behaving dishonourably as far as putting the job right is concerned - the true face of VAG re-appears.

As has been suggested on another thread, buy a 140PS Superb at your peril.

rotodiesel.
