  1. Hi all, I have just had my 6 year old Superb Elegance serviced and thought it was perhaps time I updated the Sat-Nav map. Rather shocked by the price of a new map !! Can buy a complete new Sat-Nav for less ! If anybody does update their maps what do they do with the old ones ? Surely it is possible to buy a one or two year old map for a reasonable price. Anyone got any ideas ? Still love my Superb, best car I have ever owned. Only car in the last 20 years that I can do a four to five hour journey and not have backache all next day ! Regards, Roy
  2. Interesting ! My front tyres, original fit Pirelli P6000's, are getting close to replacement at around 13000 miles, which seems a bit early to me. I was thinking of Continental Sports Contact 3, since they were recommended by " Which ". However the previous posts don't seem so supportive. What other tyres would be recommended ? Locally, it would seem that the only available Michelins are Pilot Primacy, at a similar price to the Contis. Any advice would be appreciated. Superb Elegance 2.0 TDI, 3 years old.
  3. Yes, I really appreciate the comfort of my Elegance. Four hour trips used to leave their mark with all the cars I previously owned, including an E-Class Mercedes. I recently did a trip to friends in Scotland and arrived relaxed and no sign of back problems, not to mention the 52 miles to the gallon !!
  4. I have a 2006 Superb Elegance. Spare rubber mats from my previous Nissan Primera fitted near perfectly. These were quite cheap, universal fit Nissan mats. Worth a try, if they are still available.
  5. Hi, all, I have had my Superb Elegance 2.0 for coming up to one year now. Delighted with the car in general - much better than the 7 year old Mercedes E class I had before ! However, I had to top up the screen-washer the other day, and on opening the bonnet, found what looked like corosion. Closer examination revealed that the sound proofing/insulation on the scuttle had been chewed by Mice !! There isn't much room under the bonnet to set traps let alone keep a cat and I don't know how to keep the little blighters out of the garage. Merry Christmas and a good motoring New Year to everyone. Roy
  6. Hi all, Interesting your comment on new car seeming "less wallowy". All the reviews I have seen seem to think the car wallows a bit on cornering. Having had my 2.0 Elegance for around two months now I am getting more and more impressed by its cornering. Could it possibly be the low profile tyres fitted on the Elegance ? The ride is a bit on the firm side (:-) ! Regards, Roy

  8. A couple of weeks ago there was some comment on the need for a Rear Screen Wiper. You might like to try " RAIN-X ". Not quite as good as a wiper but does help. A friend recommended it to me and then gave me a bottle. I imagine you can get it from Halfords and similar. On the Windscreen, in moderate to heavy rain and speeds above 35 mph, it keeps the screen completely clear ! Not quite so good in very light rain or roadspray. On an other topic - Top Gear, I swapped my 1999 Mercedes E-class estate for a Superb Elegance. The Merc. was the worst car I have owned in 50 years of motoring. Total breakdown 7 times in one year. The Superb is superb !!
  9. Looking at the brochure and my car the SatNav aerials are at the back of the car, near the radio aerial, so would the stolen unit work away from your car ?
  10. My 2.0 is fine, idles quieter than the Mercedes E300 I got rid of. Only problem with 1st gear is not to over-rev when moving off.
  11. Hi all, This is my first posting to the group but I have been reading the posts with interest. I now have a four weeks old Superb 2.0 TDI Elegance. Apart from a poor pre-delivery inspection a brilliant car. However, last week - Friday, parked the car, folded the mirrors. Returned later, mirrors would not unfold. Drove home and garaged the car till Sunday morning whereupon when I went out to it I could not unlock the car by the remote. I used the key but no instrument lights, no power, completely dead ! I contacted the dealer who eventually sent out a young lad with jump leads and a multi-meter, no tools ! To cut a long story short after an hour trying to start it he said there was a heavy drain on the battery and I had to get the AA Skoda rescue to recover the car to the dealers. The AA started the car first time with a power pack and off it went. The dealers then claimed that after two days testing they could find absolutely no faults and the car seems to be fine. A few years ago I would have suspected Battery Post Corrosion but that is almost unheard of nowadays and on a new battery ! Anyone got any thoughts ? Regards Roy
