Compaq Armada E500

I've just "aquired" a Compaq Armada E500 laptop (pentium 3-700, with 192 Mb and 40Gb) and it all works nicely -apart from the pcmcia slots. The machine doesn't detect any card inserted. Anyone got any ideas? Things I've tried so far:

Reinstalling the PCMCIA driver -it installs, but says it can't start, which suggests it can't see the hardware

flashing the bios

disconnecting the BIOS battery for a couple of days.

I should point out that it fell into my grubby mitts after it was returned from HP as "beyond economical repair" -when it gets really hot, it gives memory errors, but it's fine at normal temperatures.

I've pulled it to bits, and I can't see anything unplugged or loose. The previous user swears the PC slots worked before it went away.

Any Compaq experts present? Anyone got any suggestions?

Cracked Headlight Casing

Whilst refilling the washer fluid, I noticed hairline cracks running along the top of the right hand headlight casing. These run pretty much the full length of casing, and in places the crack goes right through so that the integrity of the unit is breached. Looking at the left hand headlight I found the same, although the cracks haven’t broken through yet. Needless to say I haven’t been involved in an accident at any point, nor am I in the habit of slamming the bonnet shut etc. Has anyone el

Hi there, my rear box has finally given up the ghost so I'm looking for a half decent replacement. I don't want to fork out for a genuine OEM one as the seem quite pricey. In the past I've bought exhaust parts from a manufacturer beginning with a K and found them to be really poor. A mate of my son works in their technical department and he says he wouldn't use them. So if anyone has any suggestions of makes and suppliers they've found to be good quality I'd love to know. Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone, I have a Factory fitted electric Tow bar. Last time I use, it was 5 years ago I believe. I tried to use it Today no chance not releasing. It has a green light always but whenever I pull it out light changes to red blinking and tow bar is not releasing. I used some wd-40 and rust cleaner but still result didn't' change. I also tried to pull out the tow bar with bare hand or hit the mechanism with a wood or hammer(kindly), still no chance. Anyone faced the same issue?

Hi all, I've had my mk4.5 Octavia vRS for almost 3 weeks and while I find it to be a great car overall, there's some things that are a bit annoying. Lane assist: I understand what it's trying to do but the implementation seems flawed so it's a good thing it's easy to switch off. I had forgotten to turn it off today though and while driving down a road which is wide enough for two cars but only if you stick to the edge of the road, the lane assist kept trying to push me closer to the centre.
