Anyone on here done a K04 Conversion to an Octy?

Featured Replies

Has anyone on here done a K04-023 conversion onto a Vag k03/K03S equipped engine and does it go to similar results as the LCR/TT Bam engine, i.e 270-280bhp? Anyone with a Dyno plot?

Leeboy ran one and it made a reliable 240bhp and about 260lbft.

On mine with a KO3's the addition of a decent Exhaust, Intercooler & Jabba mapping skills gave 250 bhp, Im not convinced the KO4 conversion is financially worth it

I considered this, but decided against such a conversion.

You still suffer from the KO3s traits with the KO4, i.e. boost drop off at the top end due to the heat build up in and around the turbo and manifold, admittedly the power levels will be higher, but not by much (20bhp-25bhp extra).

It will however offer as it has already been said produce between 240bhp and 260bhp, but injectors and other small ancillary parts will need to be changed to get the best out of the new set up.

I am however biased, if you’re thinking of upgrading your turbo I have just had the Jabbasport IHI fitted with ceramic lined manifold, this will pull high boost (18-19 psi = 330bhp-340bhp) and sustain it to its new 7500rpm limit making it drive and feel completely different in character.....kind of face distortingly good!!:D

It's a lot of wonga the IHI conversion, but my god it's well worth it!!!!!:D

there are alternatives to the Jabba IHI conversion though, a kind of middle ground.

the GT2x, GTRS and GT781R kits from APR are cheaper, the GT2x kit provides 270-290bhp on a healthy car and the GT2871R will be early 300's and from what i've heard cheaper than the IHI kit, not taking anything away from Jabba as every kit has its good and bad points but there are alternatives :)

from the prices i have seen the IHI costs nearly double that of the GT2x kit and around £1500-£2000 more than the GT2871R kit but apparently the IHI has less lag :)

From reading up on a lot of threads after I've had my car rolling roaded. You wont see a K04 turbo running 270hp, on just a remap. You'd need a few other modifications first... along with an exhaust, the filters, a lot needs to be changed to see 270hp.

Bengie said leeboy ran 240hp. I ran just under 240hp in my LCR.

The 270's and the 280's are the Seat's version of saying the Fabia will reach 190-195hp with just a remap.

It doesn't happen.

I went the Jabba IHI route & can only echo your comments, I say its only another 100 bhp over the max I could wring out of the KO3 but the power band is incredibly wide & it really makes it a fantastic car to drive, it certainly felt like more than 100 bhp increase.

Jabba + IHI every time for me :) :) :) :)

I have the K04-023, manifold, TT 386cc injectors, oil & water lines a 4 Bar FPR, TT silicone TIP, Airbox and MAF, a Forge FMIC, Evoshield Gasket, Samco silicone hoses, Forge Eliminator Blueflame Cat back and will be buying the 3" LCR Blueflame single cat DP once fitted it will be custom mapped, I have seen an Ibiza to a similar spec that got 270bhp and 301lbs/ft torque....running Revo Stage 2, hoping for similar sort of power. IHI is too much money, for that sort of money I would just sell the octy and buy something 300+ to start with.

I think I have the right spec to take the K04 to its upper limits, its just acertaining exactly what those limits are:confused:

I think the 270-280 is about max you're going to see unless you start looking at the block and cylinder head itself which is big wonga again. Mine was running 245 with a simple trubo swap, and full miltek system No other changes whatsoever initially, so I'm sure you can find those extra horses with bigger injectors etc.

And if you've got money left over spend it on an LSD - it'll make far more of your power increase than you can really imagine; no good having power if you can't get it to the tarmac.

There is a hybrid K04, Which WILL see you hit the figures of 280 and hold it. It's £900 from America, excluding fitting/mapping. Direct swap for an LCR, but... I'd say your looking at £1500 all in all. Not really worth it.

Yes, some of the guys on SCN have gone for them but from what I have seen they have ended up wishing the stuck with the std K04 for the gains they got

Ive been looking down the IHI route after driving Q`s car (ex Adrians) 330bhp, but the costs put me off.....

Pity theres not much info; on the GTRS from ATP as this sound ideal, up to 350bhp:) anyone no of anyone whos fitted it to a Octy:confused: Like Daver i already have a lot of the "bits and bobs" to make the install less costly....;)

Phil

Prices would be nice if anyone is willing. Gives me some idea of what it costs to even consider it

About 20hp, for a lot of money.

Is it cheaper to fit a s/hand TT 225 lump, a decent exhaust & then get it re mapped

Could be worth looking at..... A friend at a local tuning shop:rolleyes: could have got me a low mileage BAM engine for around 1.5k, 500 to fit and a couple for the remap;) This i now think would be the cheapest route plus it came with the 6 speed box......only thing needed would be to fabricate the downpipe:cool:

And not pushing the thing toooooooooooooooo far so probably more reliable, 1500 squids seems a fair price, I was quoted 1000 for just a lump & that had 80000 miles on it & was out of a German registered car. 6 speeder is also a lovely box & a lot stronger than the Octy box

if i were doing it again i would change the engine to a 225 lump and go from there. cheaper than uprating rods/pistons etc and changing gearbox on a 150/180 lump.

Errm we seem to have gone slightly off topic here!the point of this post was to see if antone had actually got any experience with this conversion...power gained, driveability etc not whether IHI, Garrett etc was better, yes I appreciate an IHI conversion costinge XK is better but...............need I continue

  • 1 month later...

think he has a k04 already if you look at his previous post

Yes please - K04 reviews needed!

Awesome have just done a StageIII to a Golf and JBS have announced new BT kits....

What do I do?

K04 (Awesome or JBS)?

I don't really want a second-hand Impreza or to ditch my engine....

Reviews please!

How much power do you want ?

The KO3 + Intercooler & Zorst & remap will give you 250 bhp

Is it worth going further ??

Impreza, Forget it, I had one, great car when it was running but cost an absolute fortune to own. My Impreza was 290 bhp, the Octy 4x4 with 250 + upgraded brakes & Suspension was far quicker as the Impreza was terribly laggy

If you want a really fantastic drive save your hard earned & get the Jabba IHI kit, thats truly stunning & incredibly driveable

Stuart - after 6 months of research and sleepless nights I think that's me decided!

FMIC...

Blueflame...

See how it goes and then start saving - for Jabba's IHI or JBS' IHI hybrid....
