What Causes an EGR Valve to Fail?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

I had the emissions warning light come on last Sunday driving upto Crook in County Durham. I was only able to get to the dealer yesterday in York on my way home from my course.

First impressions of them are that they are very good since the car was booked in for a look at 1pm, I got there at 11am and they saw to me straight away.

Anyway they cleared the light and told me I needed a new EGR valve. I noticed that when I got home there appears to have been oil leaking from it at some stage.

I asked about the stutter returning since I had the modified gasket last year and I was told it would come back. I am not pleased about this. The service guy said he had a Fabia Vrs and he had got rid of the stutter by changing the settings. He had not had the car remapped of turned the EGR off.

I'm digressing the point - why do they go and is 9000 miles early?

My EGR valve was leaking oil (car had dome 60k at the time) and it was replaced under warranty.... think BryanD has had one replaced too....

I think I know what caused mine to fail.. (but don't want to say on here ;) )

Thanks for that, Sharkrider.

Did yours going affect your cat or anything else on the car later on?

Concerned that it going at such a low mileage and might have a knock on effect since the earliest I can get it mended is 28th March, 07.

you'll get a PM in a minute or so.....
