remote mirrors playing up

Featured Replies

Weird thing happened today. I was adjusting the remote rear view mirrors, something I rarely do, and discovered the joystick switch deems to have developed a fault.

If switched to the lefthand mirror all is well and it adjusts just that mirror as expected. However if switched to the righthand (drivers side) mirror, both mirrors move with the lefthand mirror moving up and down along with the righthand one but moving in towards the car when the righthand one does and moving away from the car when the righthand one does.

Has anyone experienced this pecularity and does anyone know the fix?

It's normal operation, they are meant to work like that, something to with adjusting them for parking.

I don't think so, otherwise why would they print a letter 'L' and a letter 'R' at the two different extemes of rotation of the switch. Besides previously each mirror moved independantly based on which position the switch was rotated toward.

No, there is definately something up. I have read elsewhere here that there is a reset facility for windows etc. that involves locking the car with the key, however I have not managed to find where it is detailed exactly how to carry out this procedure. I wonder if this might sort the problem out ?

I'm pretty sure its in the manual as a normal operation.

To allow for easy one touch movement of the mirrors for shorter/taller drivers.

Thanks, I must have been mistaken.

My car is one of the last pre-facelist Fabia vRS's and I guess despite the switch saying 'R' and 'L' in reality the 'R' setting is supposed to move both mirrors by all accounts and should be labelled 'R + L'.

Therefore I suppose the drill is to get the driver's side positioned correctly and then switch over and adjust the passenger side seperately, that way when parking and with the switch set to 'R' you get the benefit of being able to adjust them together and then subsequently reset them all with the one option. Clever really I suppose.

I thought the same thing, I only noticed after I had washed my car one day... I thought water had ventured somewhere it shouldn't. :)

Baffled the dealer on the test drive that did

He was showing me how to adjust them and was confused at why one would work then both would lol.

I sussed it out by the time Id got to the end of the road, although it is a strange way of doing things.

R&L, adjust this first to adjust the right hand mirror only.

Once the right hand one is done, select L and adjust the left hand mirror.
