PS3, Which Games?

Featured Replies

What are the bestest games to be buying for PS3? The ones that look good to me are the offroad rally type effort, and the Tom Clancy Double agent one.

Any advance?

Spotted an F1 game yesterday that looks very nice. I think that might be my first game unless there is something like counterstrike coming out

I think it's the F1 game that you can connect up a PSP and use it as a rear view mirror

Cool! I don't really like F1 games though, they're a bit too hard.:o

The F1 game is fantastic in terms of eye candy. It looks just soo real, and there are lots of little effects which just add to the realism - the exhaust vapour gives you a cloudy / smeary view, the rain is just too gorgeous and makes it distracting, etc.

Lots of people have complained that it's too easy and not feck hard like some enthusiasts wanted it to be. There are lots of driving aids that will help you get used to the car and you can then turn them off.

Unfortunately however, the rear-view mirror on the PSP is not available. The technology is there and it was planned to have it in the game, but the functionality was never implemented in the final release. It looks very cool though. An update in the future should enable the functionality. Also, by the end of the year, there is plan to release a clip-on video camera for the PSP which will then allow you to have your face mapped into the cockpit behind the helmet, and you can give matey-boy the finger as he overtakes you. Pretty cool stuff. Not available yet, but in the pipeline.

Motorstorm is more fun than F1 if you just want slapstick entertainment. The physics engine is pretty good and the european version supports multiplayer.

I've been playing the demos of F1 and Motorstorm for the past few months on my PS3 and they're great fun.

I have Ridge Racer 7 on my PS3 (as well as Sonic, which is pants :thumbdwn: ). RR7 is more arcadey but good fun and online play is smooth and precise. I was well chuffed when the newsticker in the lobby showed my name after I won my first race. Gives you that community feel to it :D

Resistance Fall of Man is a 1st person shooter. I haven't got into the demo and whilst lots of people really like it (although it takes a bit of playing before you're really hooked), it isn't quite up to Gears of War. As far as I'm concerned, I just can't play FPS on joypads - too used to a mouse :o

There are lots of demos worth downloading so you try before you buy. The demos are free and downloadable from the PSN, although you need broadband as they weigh in around 650-700MB each.

Thanks for the info Xav, I didn't realise you could download demo's. That's a very useful feature.

I've heard Motorstorm is very good although it's only 1 player offline.

I'll be buying that along with Resistance: fall of man, RR7 and I'm thinking about either Virtua Fighter or Virtua Tennis (or maybe both as I get paid next week and am owed some cash).

The first game I'll be downloading will be Gran Tourismo HD, and I'm a sucker for games like lemmings too.

Don't forget you can upload Linux to the PS3 and use it to play back up copys of old cartridge ROMS (so you have access to a massive back catalogue of old games you can play as long as you own the originals from a legal point of view;))
