Tick-tick-tick-tick from Radio when Fabia turns on

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is meant to happen, but when I turn the ignition and the radio/cd etc is left on from when I last drove the car there is this ticking/wirhing noise. A bit like a purrr from a mechanical cat.

Any idea what this is?

Cheers

Does it have a CD in it?? If not then it's probably the loading mechanism looking for one.......

Or it could be the loading mechanism on it's way out/broken already......

I have a 6 disk thingy, which is very much on the blink. Often it decides to hate certain slots.

It always has a CD in the dash mounted part, but never an issue playing it.

I have an in-dash 6 cd changer in my Golf and it whirs & clicks when I turn the key to switch the ignition on or off.:)

It's always done this and I suspect it's entirely normal.

I imagine it is the mechanism inside that loads the cd's either replacing the last cd played ready for playing again or parking it up depending whether switch on or switch off.

The loud woodpecker noise from the symphony is a well known problem.I had mine replaced under warranty 2 weeks ago.The dealer didn't bat an eyelid. The replacement is silent in comparison.

Wood pecker affect... perfect wording for it.

I am all out of warranty, and I am not to bothered about just living with the noice so long as it is nothing bad.

Well wouldn't you know it ... SWMBO's Symphony unit has just started making this "woodpecker" type noise ! It was interspersed with the occassional "error" showing on the head unit display & much louder than the noise I described earlier in this thread that my Golf CD changer makes on shutdown or start up.

I've discovered that it's only happening when a CD is loaded in the head unit slot. As SWMBO has a 6 disk changer in the boot it seems that it can be avoided by only using CD's in the 6 disc changer and not putting any CD's in the head unit slot !

As mentioned above a well known problem, misne is doing this also, unfortunately no more warranty! BOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mine still ticks away happily, at some point I will replace the head unit with an ipod one.
