Hi all

I'm getting a warning that my CPU fan has not been detected at boot up. I press F1 and the boot up continues but after about 5 minutes the other fans make the machine sound like Concorde on take-off!

I've cleaned out the front vents (lots of fluff!!) but can't work out how I get the outer case off to clean inside. It's an HP Compaq Presario 6000.

Basic question, I know, but any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

I don't know that particular model, but some ATX tower cases require you to yank the front off which then lets you get at screws to release the side(s). There should be a handy hand-sized gap on the bottom if this is the case for yours.

Thanks for the reply. Managed to open it up (3 bits off the front first). Delicate use of minature vacuum and full sized Dyson retrieved about a mug full of gunge!

It worked! The machine is running virtually silent now and I can almost hear my watch tick:)
