I'm intrigued.... my 16" wheels with 205/45/16 tyres have a radius of 295.45mm

However if I had 17" wheels on 205/40/17 tyres I'd have a radius of 297.9mm

Therefore if the difference in size is so small, then surely the only cosmetic improvement is because the tyres profile is reduced!

Is that not possible by having wider tyres on 16's, obviously the speedo will read out by further (roughly 2mph slow), but you'd get the same aesthetic effect.

I'm not denying that 17's don't look very nice, just suprised because I always thought bigger wheels would close up the gap from tyre to wheel arch.
