Engine coolant warning light

Featured Replies

When I start my Mk 1 octy vrs up on a very cold morning (frost on windscreen and indicated temperature of below 1oC) after about 20 seconds there is a beep and the engine coolant light on the dash comes on. If I stop the engine and restart the light will go out and normally stays off. Occassionally I have to switch the engine on and off a couple of times before it does not come on again. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know what is causing it? I would be grateful for any insights.

Hi Mate

Yes it is a common fault of the expansion tank

There is a sensor on the tank that gets clogged up and goes faulty

Some have said if you clean it up it will go or top up the coolant just above the max it will go out

But they are very inexpensive (approx £10.00 ish ) and dont take long to do

Just check the level before you go doing anything like this though

If you do ANY work on the coolant , check the engine is cold before you start it
