ahhhhh help please brake light bleep!

Featured Replies

right... My fabia has this brake light problem, the bulb warning light on the dash and the beep/shreeek of hate come on and off as they please not just when i use the brake when i start the car most of the time it comes on and it seems to happen over bumps but thats not a rule. When i comes on it can stay on for 5 seconds or 5 mins.

I've replaced the brake switch but i still get this bloody noise!!

can anyone help me? i've considered selling the car its so anoying but i don't suppose it would sell with this beeeeeeeppppp .

the actual brake lights work fine if i've checked when the warning light is on and they all work.

please help i'm going crazy

have you checked the brake fluid level , this could be low , causing the warning

I take it the amber bulb warning light is coming on so it wont be the fluid level as mentioned above. Have you physically checked the bulbs and that they are secure?

yep its the ambere warning light

checked the bulbs they seem secure no noticable play.

Can i use the evaluation version of vagcom to check for a fault code? i guess it will just point to the brake switch? Is there a wiring diagram available? i wonder if i could put a resistor over two of the connections on the brake switch to fool it into thinking everything is ok?

i'm getting desperate

thanks for the help its all really appreciated

Its nothing to do with the brake light switch otrher than that activates the bulbs. For whatever reason the dash thinks one of the bulbs isnt working. This is done by a circuit check along the bulb. This is possible as the switch is closed at rest and when the circuit is broken the lights come on. But if your saying the lights are on it means there is something else a miss. Its not the first time this has come up on here, have you tried a seach?

Failing that its going to need propper diagnosis with the current flow diagrams, maybe a Haynes manual?

BTW are all the other bulbs working?

IIRC it doesnt just monitor brake light bulbs, check al your lights including the number plate light bulbs.

all the bulbs seems to be working, i just started the car and the beep has gone, but it will be back next time its on (some time today ) i will check all the bulbs, would it be monitoring the bulbs even if they are nt in use? ie head lights etc?

i suppose it could be a loose connection on any of these?

the problem seems to be getting worse 3 months back it did it once a week nw its all day every day.

i have a haynes manual but i don't really know what i'm looking for in it?

thanks for the help

...and check the unit at the top of the tailgate. I had an intermittent problem with one on my previous Fabia. If you are driving at night, you can see if it is working in the rear view mirror because there is a red glow. The good news is that this is a warranty item.

high level light was working too. I assume that while the warning light is showing on the dash, the fault is present.

What i'm getitng at is if the fault was intermitent and only existed for short period of time would i expect to see the dash light on for a shor period? or does it hold?

i assume its only when the fault is present as it's on for varying amounts of time.

In my case, I think the warning light reset every time the engine was switched off. It came on as soon as there was a problem, of course, but I cannot recall how long it remained on after that. However, the problem kept coming and going so frequently that it probably would not have had time to reset in between failures anyway.

I've just had a thought (a rare moment indeed). How about removing your parcel shelf, peeling back the covering to the lights in the boot and driving around at night? Chances are that you will be able to see in the rear view mirror which light cluster is the problem.

PROGRESS!!!!!!!

right wel it seems that that loose connection is comming from under the dash from one of the connections going into a slim flat black box!!

after mcuh shaking ad tapping the car i can sort of make the beep come on /off by moving the wires /tapping the box

what is this box and could it have anyhting to do with the stupid beep?

its also worth nothing the that this box thing is not closed properly and it look like the clips are not aligned and cclosed sut properly

if this means anything to anyone please say

i think i'm gettnig there!!!

i hope

thanks for the help so far

matt

If the box is a double type relay that will be the bulb failure module so yes, bang on. If its the horizontal box with loads of plugs on it thats the central electrics ECU which controls light functions, so again a possibility.

p.s this would have been the next place to look once bulbs were clarified as ok ;)

i think it was the doube relay thing. gave it a little nudge and beeeeeeep so i took it out and had a look at the three spade connections the sseemd ok, put the box back and it clicked into place. since then not beeping but its early days

well it looks liike ive tracked down the culprit!

thanks again for all the help i really needed it
