CubeVan Q's

Featured Replies

Hello again,

After sorting the hot-start problem the 1.9D cube has developed another, possibly two, problems.

Firstly I think there's a leak from the power steering reservoir at the front right of the engine bay...it seems to be from a union or pipe just bellow.

Does anybody know which fluid to use as I don't have Haynes manual for it yet...and there's another question...will the standard Felicia manual cover all the mechanicals for the van?

The other problem is a squeaking noise from the mid-left of the engine bay (as you stand looking at the engine). I'm thinking it may be the cam belt or alternator. This seems to go away on a straight run at constant speed, and is more noticable on runs where th speed varies a lot...winding roads etc. Any ideas?

If it is the cam, how easy a job is it as a DIY prospect?

I'm not too hot on diagnostics but can remove/replace/repair most things once I know what it is.

Anyhelp would be appreciated.

cheers

It will use green mineral fluid for the PAS, same as other VAG vehicles. And yes the manual will cover 99% of what you need.

Blimey that was quick! Many thanks.

I've just had a look in daylight and the leak seems to be from the rubber feed pipe(?) beneath the reservoir where there's a union to a steel pipe.

Is the union, or rubber pipe and union, available as a spare?

And another thing...in my ignorance I'm not actually sure if the poly v belt that passes around the alternator pulley also serves the cam. Are they one and the same?

And can this poly v belt be re-tensioned, just in case this is the cause of the squeak?

The hoses should be available separately. The cam belt is separate under the cover and it also drives the water pump and fuel pump. The V belt is automatically tensioned as the tensioner is spring loaded.

Thanks for the quick replies. It turns out it was all caused by the loss of PAS fluid. I filled the reservoir and within a minute of the engine running, the noise had gone and steering was back to normal.

I'll get a new hose and fit it on Tuesday and hopefully all will be well again.

Thank god it wasn't the cam belt...I don't have the time at the moment.

thanks again
