I'm using it ALLWAYS. I will never, ever let it go!

I have it and find it very useful, in fact I asked the dealer to retrofit it to the car I bought from him. I'm under no illusions that it magicly makes my car more economical, though.

Dave.

I had it on my mk1 vrs, I insisted on it on my next car and the one option I wouldn't have done without on my mk2 vrs is cruise control. Like PPlys I use it all the time. Why? Firstly because when I'm in a 30mph zone where kids could be about, i want to be looking at the road not glancing down at the speedo. Secondly, the vrs only needs a slight prod of the accelerator in any gear to take off, it's very deceptive at speed and it's very easy to be doing over a oner without noticing it. My mate has just been nabbed doing 107 in his octavia, having slowed down from 115.

Thirdly, motorway road works are now subject to such heavy surveillance by camera that any transgression is likely to be noticed and in these circumstances Cruise (not Tom!) is a god send. The cost of cruise is fairly low and if it saves one ban or ticket, its worth it IMHO.

Don't get me wrong I didn't buy the Rs to pussyfoot around in but I love cruise control.

I use it all the time, even in certain 'town' driving situations to keep myself at or just below the speed limits. On motorways it's fantastic and has changed the way I drive on them i.e I set it for 70ish and find it a far more relaxing way to drive and conserve fuel.

I use it a bit, very used full if you wanna forget about concentrating on your speed creeping up. The only thing I find that sometimes it takes a while to set it the same as car in front so you start closing on them. Then you have to dab the brakes to get it to go off, I'm sure it annoys people behind.

I use mine when cruising on motorways / dual carriageways etc. I didn't have it on my TT and missed it having had it on my golf before. A definite on the options list!

Use it all the time and wouldn't have another car without it.

I don't dab the brakes or de-clutch though, there's no need. Simply move the cruise control switch to the right slightly (but not past the click). That way you take cruise off but maintain the speed setting.

Was first introduced to Cruise many years ago driving rental cars in the USA, in the days when they had the 55mph limit. Saw the benefits then, and always had it on my own cars ever since. Not sure if it helps fuel consumption if you really (and I mean really!) concentrate on maintaining your speed. Where I think it helps more is freeing you to concentrate on the road rather than your speed, if you just want to maintain the limit. I find it particularly good in windy motorway conditions on my regular 200 mile treks up and down the M4.

I tend to use cruise most in 30 & 40mph limit areas. I thought I would use it more on the motorways than I do but it's a useful extra none the less and one I would'nt like to be without.

Together with the DSG transmission, cruise control helps for relaxed driving and avoiding speeding tickets. I use the CC whenever I can, although on Belgian roads with tons of intersections and different speed limit zones, and motorways with approaches and exits every few kilometers, it's only really usable here during the night and on weekends.

Thomas.

Excellent to use in speed camera zones like roadworks on the motorway etc. Unfortunately if you do a lot of rush hour driving then its a complete waste but on the open road its great.

SAME HERE:thumbup:

I use it in 30 zones a lot as it means that I can cover the brake pedal, reducing the reaction time of an emergency brake should one be needed!

Steve

When i was reading through the owners manual (page 22) it showed a "warning against excessive speeds" facility where you could set a limit and if you went over it, it shows text in the display and "A peep sounds" (their words not mine!) But the RS doesn't seem to have this function.

That would've been cool setting it at 148 so you didn't need to take your eye off the road!!

Use it all the time but it does make you realise how inconsistent other road users speeds can be, I overtook then he overtook and so on an Avensis the other day and a BMW a couple of days before that. Why do people overtake me then slow down!?

I find it makes my fuel consumption slightly worse than me being in control of the right pedal.

Guess who passed his advanced driving test! :P Well done BTW :hooray:

back to the cruise control................

It's ideal when driving through SPECS areas and it's good on the motorways when they are fairly quiet. It's not much good anywhere else as you are forever tweaking it to prevent running into the next vehicle. The downside to fiddling with it is the ability to accidentally knock the indicators on thus looking like a muppet.

NO YOU DON'T have to dab the brakes. Its people like you who cause traffic hold ups. YOU dab the brakes, the guy behind you brakes a little, the one behind a little more. About a mile behind, the traffic is almost stopping.

Instead, all it takes is a simple flick of the switch with your finger. Please try it

I have it and use it a great deal here in the UK now to ensure that I comply with all our varying speed limits and speed traps, but it drives the following speed fans nuts in the 30 mph zones, tough.

It makes for very relaxing driving on open roads and most motorways when traffic conditions permit and I would look for any replacement vehicle to be equipped with CC and the DSG box. Driving is no fun on today's over congested roads so why make your driving any more of a chore.

I have the same experience. Most people don't look at the speedo very frequently and so don't notice that their speed drops off on uphill gradients and then icreases on the downhill stretches, especially as lots of other drivers around them are doing the same. To them it probably seems that us CC'ers are accelerating up hills. I use CC alot and wouldn't want to go back to a car without. Its great for roadworks with the average-speed cameras and i find long journeys are less tiring too.

I can see your point....but TRAFFIC HOLD UPs :) , If theres a big enough varient between you and the can in front, I don't think the Little Switch will be enough slow you down :).

Btw In Ireland a gap in traffic...Will be taken, and people here never seem to be keeping a constant speed....maybe more should have CC

I think you might be surprised, it's certainly a better way to switch the cruise off than dabbing the brakes.

I use it a lot. I have it set to 145. When driving at the motorway I put the CC at 140 (Actual speed is then 133) and the warning at 145. If I have to let go of the CC because a sligth queing the warning will come on if the speed slowly rises and I don't notice it. Then I save my pocketmoney for another ticket ;)

If You think the numbers are big  I will just say that it is KM/T in Denmark  where the general limit is 130 km/t at motorways.

I am not sure, but maybe the warning is only available with the MaxiDot? Together with the wintertyrespeedwarning?

I think you only get the speed warning with Maxidot as I have it. Set it by accident last week to 30mph and couldn't work out how to turn it off

Looks like everyone thinks CC is the bees knees.....except me. I do feel one must constantly monitor one's speed and adjust it to the surroundings or traffic conditions - the idea of driving in urban areas (30 or 40 mph zones) on CC frankly horrifies me: how can one react to constantly changing situations when your car is forging ahead at a constant speed?

Happy for CC to be used on interstates in the US or Australia, with very little traffic around, but on the UK's crowded roads? Surely not!

And no, not sour grapes - I've got CC with our DSG and gave it a fair trial on motorways - felt I was no longer fully in control and have ignored it since.
