Overfilled Oil

Featured Replies

I'll keep this brief as it's late & I need my bed.

06 Fabia vRS, approx 500miles & about a fortnight since 1st service.

Starting the car for the return leg, the OIL indicator lights up @ 15000 miles & car goes into limp mode.

Nursed her home, did a bit of reading on here & the manual. Indicator reset 1st try.

All good. Thanks folks! :)

But I also checked the dipstick, post service oil level is past the kink & about 4mm onto the flat.

Now I have searched the forums & although it seems general consensus is 'max is fine', my level is over that, so I have a few questions:

Is limp mode normal when OIL indicator turns on/

Is it dangerously overfilled?

Should I drive it, given I've already done 450 miles with no apparent effects?

If I do, is damage likely?

Should I have a moan at my dealer?

What checks, if any, on potentially damaged components should I ensure are carried out, if/when I go back?

Sorry if this has been over before, but the OIL/limp mode thing worried me & now it's late & I'd like to know if I can use the car over the remaining holidays.

Many thanks in advance for any help...& oh aye, happy easter!

What oil indicator is on?

Amber warning light or does it say OIL in the display. Ifr its the latter its not a warning at all but the service light.

4mm over the max is nothing to worry about and I'd suspect that your limp home fault is something unrelated.

It says OIL in the display...

Thanks for your quick response, much appreciated, if our paths ever cross I'll buy you a pint!

Cheers again,
