Bizarre fault with courtesy lights on a Superb

Featured Replies

Skoda Superb - if any door opens, all the courtesy lights come on i.e. one under each door, one in centre at front and the two in the rear. Well they used to!

Current situation is that if any door is opened, the rear courtesy lights and light under the rear doors light up, but none of the front ones do. Also, none of the front interior lights can be turned on and neither of the vanity mirror lights now work as well.

Also, the boot light is not working, don't know if this is related.

AFAIK all the interior lighting is one fuse 14, which is fine, and if pulled, the rear interior lights go out as I would expect. I suspect that there must be a loose plug / wire somewhere, but where do I start looking?

I'd suggest your dealership - it's their problem, they should fix it. And also it will probably used as feedback, so if it is a widespread problem then it will be resolved in future cars...

i have something for you to try before you take it to dealer. check passenger front footwell. bend carpet up so you have accses to the floorpan see if its wet or damp. you will also see a wiring loom under the carpet going to the central convinces modual in the black box also under the carpet check that loom where the crimp connectors are. if wet mouldy contact me again so i can pass on details what to tell your dealer.

Sorry its took so long to reply to this, but I only got chance to check what adaadams said in his reply.

I checked under the carpet on the front passenger side and as he suggested, it was damp (well soaking wet actually). The carpet feels dry, but the thick padding underneath is soaking. A quick pm to adaadams and he replied with the cause, he said that the water gets in through the pollen filter housing under the bonnet next to the battery, and that the dealer will need to replace this and obviously sort out the problems its caused.

I'm booked in for Friday, its the first chance I can get.

I just thought that I'd let others know in case they wanted to check - not that I'm saying its a common fault.

I let you know how I get on at the dealers, who so far have been very good.

i can confirm that there have been afew cases of this problem. and if iam not mistaken i think they havd same problem on vw's or audi's before

Oh dear Oh dear - why does it take Volkswagen Group sooooo long to fix it's ****-ups - this fault first reared its ugly head on the Audi A6 in 1998!!

and yet we still get it with A4,A6 some A8's and as previously said other group models.

Although it has to be said - sometimes the problems are caused by heavy handed technicians when replacing the pollen filter at service. :(

Well I can confirm that the source of the leak was the pollen filter. My dealer seems not to have heard of this before, they have fixed the leak.

They have dried the carpet a little, but it was very wet, so they were unable to fully dry it out. I have the carpet lifted at the side to help it dry out, and the car is going back to the dealers next week so they can fix the problems with the crimp connectors on the wiring loom.

So is this a fault with the pollen filter housing or just an incorrectly fitted pollen filter?

Seeing as I have one of these beasts too it would be handy to know.

The dealer suggested that it looks like the pollen filter housing wasn't put in square to start with and hence the seal around it is imperfect.

Its probably easier to lift the carpet on the passenger side to see if there's any dampness rather than try and look at the pollen filter
