Bike rack for an Octy VRs?

Featured Replies

Anyone got one and would you recommend it? How do they attach and does the spoiler on the boot lid cause any problems for fitting? Pics would be good :)

I need to find this out too....got a Saris Bones bike rack that used to fit great on my old Passat but need to check with the VRS, just haven't got round to it yet....but I think the spoiler is gonna cause a problem

i have used a Saris on my mk1 vrs which caused no problems with the rear spoiler...see photo here:

I would have tought it would be ok on the Mkii but dont quote me on that!

Thanks - do you need to have another number plate and or lights on the back as they seem to be partially obscured?

the answer to that is probably...tho i got followed by the police on my first outing with 3 bikes on it and i never got pulled. I sold the rack though - i much prefer just putting my bikes in the back of the car. I would think you would be best getting an extra number plate if you were to buy one.

Cool, I'll have to try it. Did you have the bottom feet of the bike rack sitting on your bumper there? Or against the boot lid? (can't quite see it in the pic). On my old Passat I once sat them on the bumper with 3 bikes loaded up and the way the bumper flexed it looked like it was gonna crack!

Went through all this a year ago and chickened out of a rear rack, went for the roof bars and a set of mont blanc cariers instead. I know this wasn't a cheap option, but is stopped me damaging the bumper/spoiler/tailgate & has been a boon on those Ikea trips!!

Gone roof bars too. Just got back from weekend mountain biking, have no problems cruising at 80 leptons with bikes on roof. So easy to use, have Thule rack and pro bike holders. No more mud or oil in car or scratches on boot. Not cheap though, cost about £250 but worth every penny.

I am trying to decide what to use to carry my bike. I have been to a local towbar dealer, and the cost is about £420 supplied and fitted.

However, to fit this the rear bumper needs to be cut !

So it's back to the Roof Rails and Bike clamp.....

Atera Roof bars (black) = £70

Atera Roof bars (silver) = £90

Atera Bike Carrier = £60
