Dodgy Mechanic

Featured Replies

Got my car back from insurance approved repairer and have had a nightmare with it.

1st time it came back it was veering heavily to one side (when you let go of the wheel) and there was a loud clunking as you start the engine - turned out to be a bent exhaust.

Its now come back again and I it didnt feel right. I was going to check the tire pressure (mpg was at 28-29) and it turned out the wheel was a different size (front right wheel). Also this morning the power completely cut for about a minute and the computer reset, just wondering why this might be.

I am waiting for the insurance company to give me an exact breakdown of parts fitted then I'm going to tell them about the wheel, but do you think having the wrong wheel on the car can damage it? If so what should I do?

Also the economy doesn't seem to be right still (although its better)

Take it straight back, get the keys to a courtesy car & tell them to sort it ASAP. The longer it's in your possession the less chance you have of getting it sorted.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking but I need them to confirm they've fitted the wrong wheel (in writing) first so I've asked for that list of parts fitted. Also I have a feeling that they've not fitted a replacement exhaust (i reckon they've just bent it back because I got the car back in 2 days flat!)

I dont want the car going to the same people again because they'll just botch it again and I want the car checked independantly.

I'd get straight in touch with your insurance company if I was you , first by phone and then in writing , and complain (if you havent done so already that is!)

I would contact them straight away but I reckon they'll deny fitting that wheel when they realise its the wrong size so better for them to admit it first?

contact your insurers first, also if your in the AA or RAC get them to do a vehicle inspection , sounds like you've had a very dodgy repair done

when i had my car repaired i got a letter explaining what parts were fitted when i paid my excess
