Horror Anti roll bar bushes

Featured Replies

Bloody seething folks.

My Dad has a 54 plate octavia TDI. We attempted his front Anti roll bar bushes earlier today, and could we get them in, could we stuff. We where beginning to think that they where the wrong bushes that he was given from Skoda, but they done the part through his reg plate.

I used a G clamp and we could get the bolt to which was looking like it was starting to thread in. However we could not get the angle. So we put the old bush in, and it appears that the thread is stripped, which i actually thought from taking over from my old man.

So how do mechanics make this job so easy, what tools do they use. Also, now that it is potentially stripped, what are the options now, what is required for rethreading it, can it be done easily by a garage.

Help and advice would be appreciated,Help

Cheers

Paul

I use a small pair of long nose mole grips to clamp it back up prior to fitting the bolt.

Also the new type bushes should also have the new type clamps fitted.

And as for fixing the stripped thread, I would think the easiest way to sort it would be to chisel the captive nut out from the side of the subfram and nut and bolt it.

:) Thanks mate for the quick response. I bloody new it, i tried long nose pliers, which where just not long enough, typical.

So see the bolt does that go all the way through the subframe, or can you get up the inside of it from underneath(if you know what i mean).

And is the new type bushes the one with the groove that the rubber bush sits in.

I think in all honesty he is going to take it too a garage tommorow, but i just dont want them ripping him off, stating that the re threading business is going to be a bigger job than it actually is.

Fortunately Lummox has given you the solution so you shouldn't have the wool pulled over your eyes.
