Air Con - early service?

Featured Replies

My air con has stopped making cold air, after about 21 months of ownership (from new). The dealer tells me that the unit usually needs servicing after a couple of years and quoted

My wifes Fabia needs re-gassing. It's just coming up to 3 years old. Local dealer quoted £60 to service it and re-gas.

I think that they normally recommend servicing every two - three years.

a re-gas usually cures the warm air problem

If it's stopped completely then it could be a failed condensor temp sensor. Quite common on the Fabia. Normally A/C just gets a bit more feeble with age but doesn't pack in completely. A regas simply tops up the refrigerant to make sure it's all full.

If its still under warranty get the problem diagnosed and go from there.

Is this something with recent cars - My boss recently sold an 8 year old Primera - never regassed, but as he said the air-con would still freeze your ......... off

When i had mine last serviced they put a dye in to check for leaks at the same time. They found a leak on one of my pipes - they wanted £150 for the pipe plus fitting

I guess a re-gas is one of those consumables things that you just have to have done, whereas any faulty sensors would / should be covered by the warranty.

Surely they must be able to make an air con unit that doesn't need re-gassing after 2 years. perhaps there is a leak. (Well I suppose there must be if it need topping up!)
