40k service - Independent or Main Dealer

Featured Replies

Time for my 40k mile service on my VRS - Phoned around for a few quotes.

Firstly :

Main Dealer - most expensive

If you plan to keep the car for a couple of years doing 30k a year the car isn't going to be worth much come trade so you might as well save your money IMO.

You're specialist will probably do a better more thorough job too

Id go with VAG specialists, they are VAT registered so you will still have your warranty to use at the dealers. i would save the extra money.

A stamp is a stamp in my eyes to show it has been serviced.

Conicidentally,my Fabia vRS had it's 40,000 mile service yesterday. It was done by Farmers in Leicester.Cost cane to £259.27,of which £170 was labour.Only £50 was parts, the prices of which were all top dollar.I supplied my own oil.Bit steep IMHO.Now it's out of warranty i'm pondering using someone without a big showroom.Any recommendations in the Leicester/Nottingham area?

Unfortunately this is up in the North East, the VAg specialist is Lawson Cars - Don't know if anyone else has dealt with them? I think everyones right, just a slight fear it will be frowned upon come re-sale time.

Cheers Guys - Not sure when i'm going to sell it, thinking either when it gets to 45k - so not too huge a mileage or keep it for as long as I can.

On a side note - What do you think the value of a 05 plate black VRS with all options, 40k miles new tyres etc currently is £8700?

£261 verses £150. What are you asking for??

Your call. I know where I'd be going!!

Just depends how special they are.

I serviced a 1.6 Golf the other day and the previous service was done at a VAG 'specialist' and the service book had been filled in and the box ticked for having completed the Haldex service, was also on the inclosed invoice.

Yeah right.
