Effect of flood on my vRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

My vRS was submerged under water during the floods in Mumbai in 2005. The water level had covered the engine bay fully. The car was not driven in water and hence there was no engine damage.

After changing many parts (almost 1/3rd the price of the car) its now running fine since the past 13,000 km.

A broker who wants to buy my car had been trying to scare me by telling me that the car will give me problems and so I should sell it to him. I wanted to know if there is some potential problem that could occur in the long run due to the flood. I was informed by some knowledgeable friends that since the car is running ok now for the past 1 year (13,000 km) , there should not be a major problem in the future. Is it okay to keep the car or should i sell ? Am confused what to do. I like the car and actually do not want to sell.

Thanks.

There will be the possibility of electrical gremilins due to the water, but since your car has been running well for the last year, and india is pretty hot and I would guess dry most the time down in mumbai (bombay for the british name stuck in head brigade - eg me), I would think you would be ok.

If you don't want to sell it and it is running ok, then keep hold of it as I assume the broker is offering you a low price due to the water incident.

If your car was that much of a risk they wouldn't buy it to sell it on.

Thanks for the advice friend. You are right. Mumbai is HOT.

I am being offered 50% of the value of the car which is good by our standards and usually not offered to flood affected cars.

If its going well, and you love the car, why should you sell. Ask for about 50% more than it's actual worth and see what the broker says. If it were me, I would keep it and enjoy it. :)

If you are being offered a good price, then I guess what you have to ask yourself is why does he want it?

IIRC they were (are) India's only Turbo Petrol car (or so the adverts say).

If there is another car you fancy, and you are worried about the skoda and being offered a good price then now seems a good time to trade in and change.

If you are happy with the car, keep hold of it, as I'd think the Indian weather has dried it all out :P

If none of the electrics have been affected already, all you may have at some point later in the cars life, is rust on the terminals, but we all manage to live with that in our climate in the UK.
