Tarnishing to grill & badge on Vrs

Featured Replies

I have a MkII Octy, 1 year old. I have noticed a slight amount of tarnishing to the silver/chrome on the grill (area size about 2 inch) and vRS badge at the front. Anybody else noticed this? Anybody know what I can use to clean/ remove this? Will it be covered under warranty if I can't clean it? Help?

Same thing happened to all the badges and alloy wheel centre caps on our old Fabia after 2 years. It was a sort of white deposit under the surface of the badge and couldn't be cleaned. It was if the plastic 'chrome' was decomposing. The dealer changed all the badges and wheel centre caps under warranty.

i think the white deposit is a result of road grit-salt put down during the winter.

Same as Bert, got wheel centre cap replaced under warranty due to corrosion

Interesting, I was going to buy some new centre caps as mine are looking tarnished, did'nt even think about claiming for them under warranty!.

They are about £9 each too IIRC. Certainly worth a cheeky warranty claim!

*Octy Vrs TDI in black sitting on the drive in the sunshine as I type!:)

Same happened on my Mk1, yet after the 3yr warranty expired

Dad's in the car valeting biz, and said VAG chromed seems more susceptable than other makes for some reason. He's got some good tips he tells me to keep, or at least slow down, my new grill and badges going the same way.

I'll get them off him and post back.
