Access 2002 and Vista

Featured Replies

Basically, I have Vista :o

I know, what a fool. But, Im so far relativly happy with it, apart from a few things.

Office XP doesnt run all that smoothly, such as Outlook doesnt save passwords, so you have to re input it each time you send / receive. Also, the memory is out of this world, first boot took it to < 1gb! but dropped down when I turned aero and sidebar etc off.

But one of my main gripes is the amount of paranoia that Vista is undergoing. It blocks anything and everything, and constantly wants you to confirm if you are telling it to do something.

But, up until now the pros have far outweighed the trivial cons.

As some of you know, Im a computing student :orb_geek: and need Microsoft Access for project work. I dont need it as such, as all my projects are done and finished however I mentor, and need it to mark / review other students work. But, Access 2002 keeps opening databases in read only (and yup Ive checked the read only box on the file properties:P ).

I cant for the life of me sus out how to open them fully and so I turn to you, humble citizens of the Tech Shed, to find a solution (other than upgrading:finger: :P ).

Update: seems like its ok with 2003 files, but not 2002

Also, if I receive a file from - oh, never mind, sorted that one anywho. The "Read only" problem remains elusive.

Dont shout at me, but I sort of fixed it myself. The reason why some files would open and some wouldnt, is that the database files are stored on my external hard drive (G: drive).

And if I copy and paste the file onto my C: drive (such as desktop) they open just fine and dandy. So it leads me to think its something to do with permissions or trusted zones. Cant be a trusted zone issue as its not network attached, so must be permissions. Soooo, currently setting permissions to full for everyone to see if it fixes it - but solutions would still be apreciated

Bugger me but it was the permissions. For some strange reason the "Users" group didnt have Write or Modify selected

And I thought I had problems talking to myself ;)

Glad the tech shed was of use :)

i quite like vista...

now that i have all my driver issues resolved it seems to be running very nicely.

Im on that too, but want to go up to buisness or ultimate. For one reason really, the version restore function.

i must say i do find that problem annoying, when you cant load files made on an older version of a piece of software..

word and publisher have allways been particularly bad for that

Ultimate is the dogs danglys, been running it as soon as it was avail for download on technet plus.
