Which tyres?

Featured Replies

I've currently got Bridgestone Turanza ER30s (205/55/16) which i'm quite happy with.

I'll probably stick with Bridgestones, so would it be worth upping to the Potenza range or is there a better tyre from a different manufacturer that you would recommend?

Thanks,

Jon.

for cheap : federal, khumo

money: F1's, p-nero's, goodyear excellence...

(and a million other options from others to follow! lol......)

note: was it you in tiggers boot at the last BBQ? (trying to remember..) lol...

Hi Jon

I have just fitted Toyo T1R to the Fabia (standard size) and am very impressed with the steering feel, precision and consistency. Tyre noise is reduced quite a bit as well. Cannot comment on wet or damp grip as it has not rained here since I had them fitted.

I had Kumho KU31 before and these were very good. Better than the Conti SCII that came from the factory.

Bridgestone RE040 are the only tyre I have tried recently from the Potenza range. They have rock hard sidewalls and are very direct in terms of steering resonse. Grip in dry is good, in wet good but snappy once they let go. They are on a mid engined car though, known for its snappines on any tyre.

I had those tyres on my previous Octy I and didn't rate them at all in terms of performance, wear or noise, especially as they are not cheap. When the fronts wore out I fitted Goodyear Eagle F1's and they were excellent, although I suspect tyre wear could be an issue but as I don't have the car now I honestly don't know.

I've whittled it down to a choice of 4 -

Bridgestone Potenza RE050 £63.10

Toyo Proxes T1R £82.00

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 £59.90

Pirelli PZero Nero £73.30

The prices are from mytyres.co.uk and the F1's seem really cheap. Is this because they're not so long lasting?

I note that you can get Eagle F1 GS-D3 or F1 Asymmetric. Anyone know the difference and do people who own them have the GS-D3?

Thanks,

Jon.

I am currently running Falken 452's and can't rate them highly enough for dry and wet grip and the best bit is they come with a budget price tag! :D

IMO it's as likely to be cos MyTyres aren't that cheap; I got the T1-Rs for £72 each inc balance, fitting and disposal of old tyres from a Toyo specialist in Dumbarton (anyone who's near enough to care will know who, but this isn't advertising).

the F1 asymetric ones are the new ones, the directional ones are the old ones... I had some (directional , the asymetric ones are very new) and the were good, best in the dry hot weather, and wear seemed comparible with any others..

have the bridgestones on my new fiat,(205/45/17) they have the "extra load" sidewalls, so are very stiff, give great direction change, and I haven't had chance to try them in the wet yet... seem good in the dry.
