Magnex Decat & Milltek Catback

Featured Replies

Well..... just fitted both today and I have to say the result is :D :D  the low rumble on tick over is really nice and when you put your foot down the whistle and phssss when it really goes is excellent.

Found the fitting to be straight foward to..... apart from the odd cut knuckle when taking the down pipe off

I spent a lot of time trawling through briskoda for views on the decat.... whether it causes any probs with the turbo but most seem to feel it should have no negative effect and more likely a positive one.

However, I would like to fit a boost gauge just so I can keep an eye on what is happening with the turbo.... could someone recommend one?!?! ..... not really into lots of gauges but just wanted the boost one to keep an eye on the health of the turbo..... or is it important to have any others

Oh..... also picked up the 312mm brake upgrade from golfturbo with cross drilled zimmermann discs........ calipers are receiving coats of green hammerite and will be ready in the next couple of days then it will be time to fit them along with a brake fluid change..... can't wait :D

oh.... picked up the cat back for

Motorsport world seem to have it still, at a reasonable price. -

How much was the Magnex de-cat? I have been thinking of getting one for a while but like you I am a bit worried about the over boosting that some people have reported.

with the de cat fitted do you experience any engine management light problems as on a petrol car or is it allk different?

sorry if i bn abit dim

Been running a decat for ages now - no probs - can hear the turbo whistle so much better too!

The only pipework thingie that causes a CEL light is bypassing the EGR with a plate...

Diesel engines do not need a cat as petrol engines do. As diesels are not subject to the same emissions test as petrol. Basically on diesels they check how much soot is kicked out of the back rather than Co's from petrol engines.

There should be no engine management issues as diesels do not have a lamda sensor fitted in the exhaust to monitor gas levels. Other than over boost that is???

I fitted the Milltek sports cat to my VRS plus cat back. I was thinking of going down the de cat route but thought against it. On my Focus RS, I de catted that. Then when it came round to MOT. I fitted a 100 cell cat like on my VRS. When put on the rolling road I lost 2bhp overall and no loss in performance or turbo spool up. I was concerned about the over boost issue on the VRS and so opted for the safer option of the cat.

Did anyone need a new gasket when replacing their down pipe?

I always purchase new gaskets as a matter of course
