All About AntiFreeze

Featured Replies

I thought I d post here about Antifreeze

There seems to be two types of anti freeze - One pink and one blue

If i understand correctly these are fundamentally different - Its not just the coloring but also whats inside them - Can someone confirm what the differences are

How important is it for a car to use the correct VAG anti freeze?

Also under what circumstances would you expect the blue anti freeze to change color and become a dark pink?

Finally is it better to make the anti freeze more concenetrated then what they reccomend ? Does it help the car in any way or is better to have it under concentrated.

In this sort of weather how long do you have to drive before your thermo needle is at mid point

well what spec of antifreeze does the manual say? than that is the type you need. Normally the pink stuff, and for anything else thats for you to decide. personally if they say don't touch it and fill it neat, I'll leave it alone. but if the blue stuff is diluted right then that should be good enough.

surely with the amount of questions you have asked and the help you have been given, surely it's time you joined freedom and gave something back to help run the site

Coolant has quite a few properties, it has anti-freeze in it, it has corrosion inhibitors and other additives. my fab vRs has the orange one in it.

Always better to have a bit too much than not enough in there.

My car is in the middle by 3 miles from the startup, (I drive straight off), also I live in a town so pulling away and revving probably help it there faster, also a stretch of dual carriage way.

This is according to the mile counter and the multifunction button on the miles driven.

My 'ol chaps Focus seems to take forever to get to the mid point.

Wifes car had the thermostat stuck open so it took forever.

I don't touch it, as long as it's in the expansion tank.

Why does everyone have to get at people about that? It is a choice not a harassed option.

Freedom gives you benefits like access to the freedom sections etc, which if you don't want you don't have to join.

Now on the antifreeze:

The mates MK III Golf can use G11 (blue) but says that G12 (pink) is recommended and that it has improved corrosion inhibitors.

Personally if the car says G12, it gets G12.
