Hello Folks.

Featured Replies

Hello my name is David McDonald. Myself and my family presently have two Skodas. One is a 1997 Felicia 1.6 glx the other a 2001 Octavia 1.9 tdi. I previously had a 1999 Felicia 1.3 lxi , a great car and the one that set me on the path of appreciating the marque.

However my main reason for joining the forum is to see if anyone can help with a problen we currently have with the Octavia.

The problem is an intermittent fault with the turbo. We have had the car put on a diagnostics machine the upshot of which showed TURBO PRESSURE CONTROL - control limit below min level. This error was accompanied by a code number. The diagnostic also showed another code number with INTERMITTENT ERROR.

What i can't understand is that if the turbo itself is at fault you would think it would not operate at all not just intermittently. Is there some sort of sensor that monitors/operates the turbo pressure control which may be defective rather than the turbo itself?

I would be grateful for any input to the problem.

Thanks,

David.

Welcome to Briskoda

i could be a fault associated with the vnt vanes inside the turbo sticking in place... it is fairly common expecially if the car sees a lot of high speed running/idling and infrequent oil changes

hello and welcome

Hello Tom,

Thanks for the information. Would a new turbo unit be required to solve the problem ?

David.

not necessarily no.... it's worth getting a diesel specialist to look at it first... after all without seeing it, it's impossible to diagnose sucj a problem..

also it may be possible to obtain a re-conditioned unit which will be a lot cheaper than shelling out for a new one.. expect to pay at least £1000 for a new turbocharger, about £450 for a good re-con (normally sold on excahange basis) or if you are lucky you might get one of ebay for around 150 from a breaker

here's how it works.... a presure capsule actuates a lever which alters the geometry of the vanes and thus regulating the speed of the turbine

this is only a guess on my part, it could of course be another totally different problem
