Seat Removal Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Due to my other transport (a mazda bongo) going into the garage, I need a way of transporting my trials bike in a couple of weeks time. Somebody suggested, if I get the wheels off the bike, and a few other items, I might be able to get it into the furby.

I need to do some measuring but I was wondering, is it possible, and easy, to remove the passenger seat to provide a bit more room - does it impact any of the safety facilities the car has? Seat belt pretensioners, sensors etc?

Any help is appreciated, thanks,

Mark

it all depends on weather or not you have side airbags as the airbags are built into the seats.. if it doesnt have them then its just a case of removing the 4 10mm spline bolts and lifting the seat out. remembering that new bolts will be needed for refitting.

if it does have them then youll have to be very careful.............. dont quote me on this but i recon this would involve disconnecting the battery, waiting for the system to discharge then unplugin the yellow plug from underneath the seat then removeing the seat. this may trigger the airbag warning light to come on the dash, which would need clearing afterwards.

The car is completely standard so no side airbags.

The four bolts you mention, why can't they be re-used? Are they stretch bolts? I remember reading elsewhere that they are coated in a thread lock type compound but surely that could be re-applied... Is there a genuine safety implication of re-using the bolts?

Thanks for the help.

Yeah you can thread lock them in.

Thanks chaps!!

Back seats come out easily. The light bits you sit on just clip into brackets on the bottom. And there's clips at the very bottom sides of the upright bits which you can flick down with a flat screwdriver and then give a good yank off the T piece they slot on to. This should give a fair amount of room.

Make you you protect the sticky out bits of the bike so it doesn't go through a window or scratch something. :)

With newer Fabias that have three-point centre seatbelts, you'll also need a socket to unbolt the centre belt from the body. The backrest will be heavy because it contains the inertia reel for the centre seat belt.
