The vRS wiggle

Featured Replies

I've noticed this problem for some time now and its seems to be getting worse.

If you stand be the side of the car facing one of the rear wings, place your hands on the wing. whilst keeping your eyes on the front wheel/tyre give the wing a couple of sharp short shoves, you will notice the whole car wiggling from side to side. This movement seems to be generating from the tyre wall area. I have had someone carry out the above whilst looking around the car and the only movement I can see is in the tyre wall.

The tyres are Conti Sport Contact 205 x 50 R17.

I have noticed in normal driving if you drive over a pothole at low speeds (sub 160 MPH  ) the car has this characteristic wiggle.

You can just see it now can't you. A load of blokes in the pitch-black shoving the backs of their cars to see if they have the RS wiggle. :?

Any way back to the matter in hand, has anyone else noticed this RSW and is this normal?

I'll let you all go and play now, if nothing else it's a good excuse for a drive.

Nope, not a problem, but then I drive like a granny!

Or maybe its the newly rebuilt Ledas and some tyres with very stiff sidewalls

Or a combination of the 2?

Well THANK YOU for the replies.

Most informative.

I hope no one put themselves out to much in trying to answer this thread. Even a joke or a micky take wouldn't have gone amiss or "you should have bought a 4X4 you numpty" but no what do I get tumbleweed.

Techies in deed, pah! and pah! again.

If I had asked how to remove dust from my dash I would have been inundated with 85 quotes from various car cleaning manuals or been refered to the owners manual. A certain person would have scoured the net at the speed of light and posted 10 web links to Janitorial Suppliers and Car Valleting.

But no just tumbleweed.

Sorry to dissapoint.

I'd like nothing better than a spirited drive in my RS to look for it's wiggle.

I'll find out on the 17th. :D

Well, back to trying to destroy a Saturn L200.

Des, you got the title subtly reshaped to remove any innuendo - but didn't notice. What more did you expect - your post was in Briskoda General, after all. I could have recounted my experience of a Jaguar 3.4 Mk 1 being lethal on Michelin X tyres. It was the narrow back axle version, and should have been on crossply tyres with solid walls rather than flexible wall radials. With Michelins it had a nasty habit of wiggling its tail end which, unsurprisingly, didn't do anything useful for straight line stability at 120mph (pre speed limit days). Satisfied now? 8)

I just feel that we've all really, really let him down.

Like I care!
