I shall ask again - where were you all?

Did you knowledgable types all miss my original post or did I forget my deodorant???!!!!

.......one of you must know - Lummox?

Had a look at the fuel filter in my vRS with a view to sussing out how to drain it when due/as a precautionary measure. The Haynes manual describes a drain screw at the bottom but mine aint got one! It's just an aluminium body with the only orifices being the the fuel line in/outlets on the top. So do you drain them by tipping them upside down or get a new one?

Dunno

take no notice of the Haynes manual , i got one yesterday , and i must say its the most confusing load of cr@p i've ever tried to read

i changed mine recently , and tipped it upside down to see what, if any, debris was in it , nothing but clean diesel came out , so i wouldn't worry about draining it

40k miles is the service interval

I think you will find that a lot of us have other things to do on a sunday afternoon.

It would appear you have the original Bosch type fuel filter and the only way to "drain it" is to remove it and tip it out. Unless you are running Bio though I would leave it until it either fails or it's done in the service.

Enjoy the rest of your sunday.

Cheers guys (and gals!) I knew someone would come up with the goods!

Shall leave it well alone..............OK, I might empty it out before it's really due - just to see!

On mine i changed it at 20k.

I'd of thought it'd be better of changing it, than draining it.

I asked the stealers to drain it at the last (25K) service. After they had looked at it they said it can't be done, can only be replaced. It's a shame because I can't be too certain as to the quality of the derv storage out here, although the fuel itself is apparently still good old-fashioned sulphurated with a high cetane....

Maybe there's a secret VAG filter number that's drainable, gives us obsessive-compulsive types something else to do to show we care???

Cheers

Bas
