I should have chucked IT when I had the chance

Featured Replies

Well Otka is having gearchange problems.

Change up with any power going through the box (e.g. accelerating at anything more than sedate) and the gear lever will not move, when it does the thing wont go into the next gear. The faster I accelerate the worse it becomes.

Clutch travel is fine, clutch feels fine. Bite is at normal point. No strange noises.

I am scared dudes, I hope it isn't expensive and I hope it is covered by the warranty... :(

I know that a lot of early Octavias being used as Taxis had gearbox problems but they were fixed under warranty no problem. But having said that I would expect the RS box to be an entirely different beast but still as well covered warranty wise.

"Don't worry be happy"

Had it a few times on track but very rarely on the road. As Baheed says its a warranty job, especially with your low mileage.

The Golf IV has also suffered from gearbox problems involving 1st/2nd gears and synchromesh. My gearbox is very reluctant to change into second or back into first when cold, and to engage reverse, and there are plenty of document cases of the Golf having the same problem. The permanent fix involves rebuild or replacement. I mentioned it to the dealer after the test drive but before I bought the car, and I will get it fixed when I have done a few more miles. So far the gearchange hasn't improved as the car approaches 5000 miles.

I dont know about other members, but i would rather not see insulting terms to describe women on this website.

Jonathan, have I missed something here? OK I know I'm not a moderator for this forum (Hi Denis  ) but what have I missed?

The thread title was rather more derogatory 30 mins ago Jon...

Well They are going to replace the clutch FOC but they have made me aware that this is NOT covered in the Skoda warranty and they are doing this as a favour.

"The clutch is classed as a consumable (of course) and just like the brakepads/discs/tyres/petrol it wears/ gets used up (of course)"

I was concerned that there may have been damage to the gearbox but I have been assured that there is none (good). I am now worried that if a standard clutch can't take 13000 miles of driving how is it going to fare in the summer when I start using the car to tow caravan/bike trailer? Wonder if Skoda do a heavy duty clutch?

And sorry about the thread title chaps, never meant to offend. Please be aware though that I was referring to an inanimate (literally) object and not another person when I wrote it.

Once again, my humble apologies to those I offended...

This is quite worrying because you're obviously a gentle driver  , and would never abuse your car by doing timed 1/4 mile runs , or showing how your traction control works in a pub car park . I know you did have that most unfortunate accident , when your sump developed a hole whilst out on a quiet Sunday afternoon drive . Given all that , I can understand your concern :D

Very true! I of course pointed this out to my dealer as soon as I had the chance and he said much the same as you. They were shocked that the clutch gave out so soon.

I hope this doesn't manifest itself when I am in the middle of a banger caravan race... :P

I'm confused here - Mr Lucky - are you back in the original Okta or did you go for the estate? I am guessing you haven't managed to rack up 13000 miles in a few weeks in a new one, but thought you had got rid of the @?*% sorry I meant IT.....

ross I was about to chuck in Otka last week for a vRS estate but bottled at the last minute. I just can't bear losing those 17 inch wheels. I really can't justify banging in a 5 month old car so Otka stayed. I really did want the estate version when I bought Otka but they weren't out.

I am going to hang on to Otka until the all new vRS comes out..

Oh no wait.

I lied... :D

Has Lucky lost his Mr? Will someone find his missing 71 posts for him? Will he or won't he buy or keep a vRS Estate/hisvRS? Log in tomorrow for the latest, latest, latest update...(which will be subject to change as ever)

And i thought I was bad?

:D:D:D

Hehehe! Sorry, this is my work name. I just can't find my normal name at the mo' so I am using this one from home.

Normal service will be resumed as soon as I get a brain...:D
