Just back from hols and Ford Fusion rental car

Featured Replies

Not too sure what to make of the rather presentable Ford Fusion I had four the last 4 days.

Still not quite sure what the engine was, but I'm pretty sure it was a 3-pot tdi 1.4 variety, although the exhaust manifold seemed to have 4 pipes, so maybe it was a four cyclinder. Anyway, certainly didn't have any kind of grunt whatsoever.

OK, the car only had 3500km on the clock, but the clutch was awful  very spongey and light and despite the engine having just about enough torque to start moving from idle, I kept on finding myself continuously trading off clutch and throttle to try and smooth out gear changes

Oh, and the accelerator / fuel injection engine management has to be the worst I've ever come across. Every time I change gear, I would simultaneously ease off the throttle as I depressed the clutch. The engine would consistantly carry on revving, as if I hadn't let off the gas for about half a second. It wouldn't go any higher on the revs, just lingered where it was at when I let go  Only 4-5th gear change didn't seem to have this problem (not sure if the engine management changes depending on which gear you're in  ) And regarding guts, I'd say "what guts". It didn't have any! And this was a diesel! Admittedly, once the little turbo spooled up, it would eventually pick up momentum, as long as you weren't doing more than about 70km/h lol

Other major gripe was that the left foot rest platform thingy by the clutch was at a very wierd angle, and was almost like a "block of wood" which you'd rest your foot on, positioned so that you just couldn't pivot on your ankle between rest and clutch. Dunno if the RHD versions are any different... But my foot kept on falling off the side, which was an annoying distraction

Big positive though was it just didn't seem to drink fuel at all   I probably drove 400km and despite the tank saying it was still half full, I couldn't get any more than

Fusion - Pointless attempt to make an MPV out of a Fester?

Enginewise, if it was a 1.4D, I think there are several different tunes, starting from no power and rising to burger all. ;)

Fusion as in the UK one or Fusion as in the US one?

Fusion as in the UK one or Fusion as in the US one?

Possible clues 1.4l diesel, "continental fuel prices", quoted prices in Euros, speeds in km/h, flying from Stanstead? ;)

so true, what an appauling excuse for a car that sorry little thing is, had one to go to luton in, brand spanker with about 30 miles on the clock. Drove it around for a couple of days. Great on economy but god i'm glad no one saw me in it!

I'm affraid that i'd have to say its the worst hire,,,, scrap that, the worst car i have ever driven!

worse than the old astra

worse than my old f reg escort with 100k on the clock

my mate bought one

how i laughed:rofl:

I had a Mazda 6 in New Zealand.

The 2.3 litre petrol engine with an auto gearbox isn't a great combination , but the rest of the car was excellent.

With a decent method of propulsion it would be a very nice buy
