1.9 TDI v Vrs

Where did he achieve this feat?

I'm thinking along the lines of a clifftop or a ravine. :D

My dad had the 100bhp tdi and he mapped it upto 150 bhp and the handles it fine. My dad had 145mph out oh his.

You will be lucky to get 140bhp out of it and thats pushing it.

As for 145mph....

You need to be aware of the speed squared law (Double the speed square the drag). A VRS with 170bhp will have trouble hitting that due to having the drag coefficient of a milkfloat. You also need to be aware of the fact teh speedo will lie to the tune of at least 10% at that velocity.

I won't be chipping my car.

Good. Chipping it defeats the object IMO.

Thought about a Seat Cordoba PD130 SE? You can get them on a 54 plate for about 7K.

Was this speed achieved by looking at the speedo (with its 20mph increments at those speeds)?

The 100bhp TDI doesn't have the (silly) 20mph increments the vRS has..... The most I got out of mine (when running the tuning box) was an indicated 130mph, which is probably 115-120mph tops....

interesting... i had mine to an indicated 140 and it was still going all be it a slow increace. i am sure the stretch of motorway must have been a gentle downhill but it is supposed to be standard.....only 6 months old 6500m on the clock

i understand that the clock will not be accurate but still i am surprised if chipped you only saw 130 on the clock! mine will pull to an indicated 130 without a problem

are the speed sensors for ABS any more accurate? as i have vagcom and could try these readings though i would have expected the speedo though inaccurate to be fairly close between cars

Skoda quote 115mph top speed for the PD100 so I'd be skeptical about achieving much over that, but there will be a number of factors like number of people in car, amount of fuel, tyre pressures, etc. IIRC, you'll need quite a big hike in power for only a few mph top speed gain due to gearing and wind resistance, etc........

Aren't all figures like that for VAG cars quoted with two people, 25kg of luggage and half a tank of fuel?

LOL I wasnt aware of the cars quoted max speed.

115mph - can anyone confirm what the rpm is at that speed for this vehicle.

We can then easily work out what 145mph would mean rpm wise and I have a very strong view it will be way beyond the govnors kick in point.

This is totally ignoring the puny hp being produced.

Think about it an Astra VXR with 240bhp can only just do 150mph and that has a lot more torque too than your TDI100.

The BMW 330D FFS will barely go above 150mph and thats the 204bhp version (the 231bhp version will go on to the 155mph limiter but it hardly needs the limiter apparently as there is nothing left by then).

There is a HUGE difference in a car that can do 115mph and 145mph
