1.9 TDI v Vrs

Featured Replies

For those of you who have driven both cars what is the difference speed wise.

The 1.9 TDI engine comes in may different performance specifications (including the 130bhp version as installed in the VRS), which version do you mean?

If you're referring to pd100 fabia vs pd130 fabia (vRS) then they're fair ways apart as standard. The pd130 performs better than the 130hp title it leads you to believe. the pd100 is not bad of course, but comparatively they're fairly different.

pd130 engine is stronger generally, has a fair old amount of torque too.

My car was a pd100, and the pd130 was good enough for me to do a full conversion. Now I'm looking at pushing for pretty big power, something the pd100 wouldn't have let me do.

If you want any specific areas compared by me, I'll do my best. :)

I had a PD100 fabia before the vRS, and its hard to remember especially as my PD100 was remapped so the vRS didnt feel any quicker (at first ;) )

However I would say that the vRS is going to be noticeably faster, but then bear in mind there is only 30bhp between the two and IIRC the vRS is heavier so there might not be as bigger difference as you would imagine.

I bought the PD100 as it was around the quickest small diesel around at the time. Diesel car recorded 0-60 in 8.8 secs IIRC! Good cars.

I was asking because the 1.9 will be cheaper insurance then the VRS, I am looking to buy a faster car in September . I will have to take both cars for a test drive.

Also bear in mind the Ibiza tdi130 - same engine as vRS but cheaper insurance.

I bought a brand new Ibiza 1.2 in 2003 but got rid due to the over hard ride.

My tuning boxed Fabia would happily keep with a Seat Ibiza FR, and the vRS I drove didn't feel any quicker. vRS has the better interior though (although less toys unless specced up). Running costs will be slightly higher too with bigger tyres and slightly worse fuel economy. Insurance on my PD100 was significantly cheaper than the vRS though (especially as most of the vRS's in the country seem to be being crashed ;)) :D

I had an Ibiza TDI sport before my Fabia PD100 and got rid of it for the same reason (plus a few others). The Ibiza was definately faster and pulled better in gear than the fabia does but it depends what's most important for you

I've had the fabia remapped now and it's pretty quick but I'd agree with what devonutopia said in that while the 30bhp doesn't sound like a huge amount, it does make a surprising difference, especially when it's remapped. I bought the PD100 as I wanted the cheaper insurance but I must admit, there are days (quite a few of them) when I miss the Ibiza and wish I'd bought the vRS:O.

I'd say test drive them both and really put your foot down to see how the two compare...

I had a PD100 fabia and I actually thought it was pretty nippy all things considered. It's also quite understated and of course there's lower insurance and tax (I think?).

Random !!!

buy a 1.9 100bhp and wack the 425 quid, jab sport remap on. take ur power up to about 145bhp.

Really? by how much? i would've thought both vRS and the tdi130 (FR?) is group 9... but then again its hard to find one thats cheaper than the vRS...

I think it's group 7. You should look at the early 2002 - 2003/4(ish*) TDI sports as they were the PD130 engines and you should be able to find them at a reasonable price now. The later TDI sports had the PD100 engine in...

Not if you read it carefully. ;)

Yes I was refering to the earlier models, not the later FR

as others were saying, If you go for the PD 100 and put a digital tuning box on, or a re-map, you will get very similar performance, me and Yashicamat did some tests at a meet, and found the performance almost the same....

Well after many months of deciding which cars to buy I have decided to go for the 1.9 TDI and not the VRS. I had a look at a Suzuki swift but I like my fabia so decided to replace it with a faster/economical car. Will change in September.

I have owned a Tdi100 and must say that I loved it.

I now own a vRS and can give you deffinitive run down on both.

The 100 is great with fuel, absoloutely brilliant, the vRS on the other hand is not so good, that maybe down to the fact that I am driving it like a **** and experimenting on its power (had the car just over a month).

The 0-60 is really not that huge in difference, it is only when you are going some that it really show's the extra 30 bhp. The 100bhp on the other hand has a fantastic 3rd gear which really shows its torque.

I would say don't chip the thing as the 100bhp on them cars is enough, anymore and the thing would be far too unstable what with the little tyres and the normal suspension. It is not built like a vRS but is pokey well enough.

As to insurance cost this is what I found funny. The vRS will cost me an extra

when i had my 04 vrs they kept giving me a tdi 100 as a courtesy car and as i remember the difference was huge, much more than the 30bhp suggests.

Bolleaux :P

HTH :D

My dad had the 100bhp tdi and he mapped it upto 150 bhp and the handles it fine. My dad had 145mph out oh his.

Turst me if your trying to get 145mph you need a lot more than 150bhp.

Was this speed achieved by looking at the speedo (with its 20mph increments at those speeds)?

Where did he achieve this feat?
