Parking Sensor Display staying on

Featured Replies

This happened me yesterday, I reversed out of my driveway and was out on the main road (going forward before someone mentions asks was I still in reverse :P  )...never noticed it before.

I tried turning On/Off radio to see if it would make a difference but nothing. I pulled the car over, I also think I first tried putting it into reverse and coming back out to no avail. So turned the car Off (the display stayed on for a few seconds and it went out). I restarted car and it stayed off......anyone else finding this ?

Would this be an issue with the parking sensors if it continues ? or could it be with the switch when reverse engaged ?

Wondering if next time this happens and it stays on the parking display, if to get someone to check the reversing lights and see if they're on still? Might give a clue as to if it's the reverse sensor or the parking sensors themselves. Could check the sensor operation as well while the lights are being checked.

I've had it happen a few times - but since they did software updates for other things (aircon etc) i havent had the problem

IIRC it is a fault with the headunit when it happens. The update does normally sort it.

Cool, I'll mention it to the dealer, maybe he can check it out when re-connecting my rear washer tubing.

Re-software , isn't it strange the way these things, in some cases never appear for a while then all of a sudden they start showing up. You'd imagine it would occur from the start. I suppose thats electronics for ya.

Yep. Something I have wondered, and given just how advanced the computers are in cars now and how often they're linked up to the dealer computers and hence effectively the internet I expect via computers at the dealership, surely it's just a matter of time before a virus is transmitted into modern cars?

Was in getting rear washer sorted today but the dealer knew nowt about the update. Is there a specific name for this update ? He did mention about a disc which was around before for the radio but he said it wouldn't sort this problem

My stereo had a software update the last time it was in for a service.

Just because the fix isnt listed on the release notes for an update disc doesnt mean the fix is not present. The fix maybe an undocumented feature of the update.

I mentioned it to the dealer again, although the problem hasn't re-occured (I don't fancy paying for a new radio if it does re-occur.)

Anyway, I have found with mine that the minute reverse is dis-engaged the Parking sensor screen display goes off (as I would imagine).

Does anyones stay on until you go over a certain speed ? Dealer mentioned this is what could have happened in my case, as it's on one of the other Techs cars but it never happened like that on mine before. (could there be a setting on another car for this ?)

I think you'll find it's one of the options on the radio set-up that the reverse sensor system remains active and the radio volume reduced (so you can hear the beeps) until you have driven forward above a certain speed and distance. Have a look through the radio manual......I'm sure its in there.

On mine the parking sensor display stays on, the radio stays muted and the LH mirror points down towards the kerb until you exceed about 10mph (forwards - never tried it in reverse!)

Interesting, obviously theres a setting somewhere so, the funny thing is that the settings were not changed prior to the single occasion it happened, and haven't been touched since :) I can't understand why you'd want the REAR ones to stay on when going forward though, unless its a case for those with Front & Rear sensors.

@ eddie2, have you Front Sensors ?

Yes, I have - factory fitted option. However this should not make any difference. According to my 2006 manual "the parking aid is deactivated after pressing the button P or at a speed of more than 15km/h"

My manual also says "For particular model versions, the distance to the obstruction is also displayed on the display of the radio. You can switch off this function - see operating instructions for the radio"

My radio is a Stream, and the manual is actually correct in this case.:)

My 2005 made car has parking sensors. My STREAM radio had to be changed in warranty. With the new stream I noticed for 1-2 times that the display stayed in parking sensor mode and the volume still was low. It was months later after the new STREAM was installed.

It never happened before, and not at all with the old STREAM.

Normally everything goes back to normal as soon as I switch to neutral or 1st geat, I don't have to wait to reach some speed.

At the 2-year revision came out that the new STREAM was not set up to the control electronics, since then I never experienced that.
