I know the warranty for the body corrosion is pretty good with Skoda but I was wondering if anyone has gone to the trouble of undersealing their Fabia.

Also do older Fabia owners notice any "common" rust spots that need protection?

Nope. I may have done 10-15 years ago, but don't think it's worth it on newer cars.

Are the cars not undersealed/waxoyled anyway?

Had PAVA years ago and it was stunning, not a patch of rust even 18 years later, and that was without going back every 3 years to have it checked and "topped up"

Mine's 7 years old , no rust so far , I'm on the lookout for it tho , it surely will happen sometime!

I put mine up on a ramp and sprayed the underneath with the clear waxoyl stuff. Bit over the top but intend on keeping the car (06 vrs) for quite a while.

Thats what I was going to do as like you I want this car to last. I think i'm getting a bit paranoid as all my cars have been 8-10 years old so rust starts being a problem then.

I'm not so sure about waxoyl you know...

I did a fiesta with it, and the rust just came through any way, even with annual clean and re-treat. I couldn't say that the waxoyl didn't have a negative effect

forget who make it, but if it comes in tins i think `Under body sealant with added waxoyl` is the thicker paint on tar type stuff i have seen. That is perfect for a front valance in metal that has been cleaned of rust that you don't care for painting body coloured.

Chips a bit when it gets past a year old though.

It's useless once rust has set in. O2 has gotten into the metal and it just rusts under the sealant. It's one of those things to do the second the car rolls off the production line and ensure it's done properly, as in everywhere is covered.

My 04 has had it done as you can see where they've got it all over the bottom lip of the sill. In all honesty it's a bit of a mess but I don't mind as it's a bit of piece of mind.

Having said that the Fabia has a 10 year anti perforation warranty so if the rust has not been caused by neglect or accident damage Skoda will fix it for free. :D

I found a small bit of rust on my boot lid on the weld near the rear number plate lights. Skoda fixed that one for free with no quibbles.

Out here with the sun and saltspray, no-one seems to go for extra protection on "German cars". Their protection is superior to US and other makes.

As an aside, an extra bit of underseal gives you a small amount of sound insulation...

Had my Felicia for 10 years, not a speck of rust anywhere and the Fabia looks to be even better protected. The thing that will kill these (and most other modern cars) will be the eventual failure of the ECU or some other small but overpriced electronic widget which will put an otherwise perfectly sound car 'beyond economic repair'

Also after 15 years the airbags and seatbelt prtentioners are supposed to be replaced , that job will probably be more that the car is worth @ 15 years old!
