DSG + 140PD = 9.6 to 62 - HOW?

Featured Replies

With the idea of running my car at Santa Pod - at the VAG GTi Festival on the 8th July (See the Social : Regional Meets Forum area) I have been trying a few 'fast starts' in the old Octy but am totally defeated by the DSG box.

Best I can do is box in manual, but let it change automatically, left foot brake, very light throttle (or it simply clams up) and drop brake and increase throttle (not floor it or it again it just thinks about it a while) and away. No difference whether traction is on or off.

With a digital timer I get about 10.5 to an indicated 66 (equiv to 62 as indicated by my GPS)

A whole 1 sec slower than the 'official' timing of 9.6.

All this was purely an exercise as I happy with the performance driven normally and the car has great overtaking performance but if I do run at the Pod I do not want to disgrace myself or the Octy.

Does anyone know how the 'official' acceleration time was achieved??

engage 1st, left foot hard on brake, then pummel throttle and rip of the brake before the car kills the power :)

There's a 'youtube' video around of some Japanese guys doing standing starts in a Golf GTI - manual vs. DSG.

This might give you a clue.

I am a little confused Octavia5, why would you put the car in Manual but let it change automatically? If I wanted maximum acceleration I would have thought it might be better to manually change up earlier than the red line, say just before 4K revs, as the car will probably be dying a bit after that.

Yep, here's the dyno plot of my car (std 2.0tdi) for reference to where the power dies:

As you can see there's little point taking it past 3900rpm.

Whoo hoo, I was right. I have never had a dyno plot of Wilberpog. Quite fancy one now, especially as I see you are producing quite a bit more torque than factory spec.....purely for bragging rights down at the WI you understand:D

He he, well power is up by 16bhp on my best run too, and that's believing that there is 13bhp loss in the drivetrain.

Thanks for the feedback people. The reason I just left it to chnage automatically while in manual is that just seemed to be better than Sport Mode, my box seeks to change at about 4,200 revs anyway but next time I have a play I will try manually changing at about 4k but it just gives me something else to look at instead of the road.

My main issue was just getting off the line as no matter how I try I can not get a quick take off as the EMS seems to cut the revs and then take a while to recover if I over throttle it before actually getting moving.

Just put it in spot mode and floor the ****er..... works in my Dads 2.0TDI DSG

You should be able to feel the power tailing off at about 4krpm, I certainly can feel the power dropping of then.
